Studying/researching. If prompted by curiosity, I can gain near-expert knowledge of a topic in short time but only for as long as I need the knowledge

This resonates. I can wiki surf a topic or dive into primary sources on things and develop a stronger than normal understanding of something. But I can remember it and file it away. If I hear an interesting fact in a conversation, I can typically remember not only that fact, but when it happened, where it happened, and who told me.

This makes me pretty valuable at bar room rivia or other parlor tricks. Also helps me make small talk, if I can find something that the other person is interested in and I can remember the one thing I heard about that topic from a NatGeo documentary that I watched on a rainy Saturday in 8th grade.

This has various levels of utility, but for the most part, my wife is just convinced I'm autistic.

Raising children and being a dad and now grandpa. Only thing in my life I’ve ever been great at. Was a very average athlete growing up. Was never a standout on any team I played on. Wasn’t particularly good at hunting. Didn’t really have the patience for it. I enjoy fishing but again, just never been a great angler. Picked up golf in my early 20’s. I’m 53 now and still have never shot a round in the 80’s. I do well at my job. Good enough to keep it and have climbed the ladder a bit mainly just due to tenure but definitely not considered one of the best in our group or company.

But man did I do the dad thing right. Both my kids are good decent people. They both are doing well in their careers. They both found great spouses and seem to have very happy marriages and both have each given me and the wife a set of grandkids. They call often. Come by for visits and invite us over frequently. My son will often times call me for advice on everything from yard maintenance to cooking or just how to handle some life challenge that has popped up. My daughter still gives me the biggest hugs every time I see her. Both my children still say I love you to me and my wife when they are leaving.

I have been very very very average in every other aspect of my life but I didn’t frick up my kids or my marriage and if I died in my sleep tonight, that’s enough for me to call the life I’ve had a huge success.

Now if you were to ask my wife, she would say my tongue was my greatest gift, which is probably why my marriage had been so successful…..Ok, so this last part was just a joke…or was it…

My job is what I'm good at.

The trouble is it's in a rapidly declining industry with constant increased competition.

An uncanny ability to do without other people. I am not anti social and enjoy the company of others but I don’t need it like most people do. I can go a week without talking to another person without any problem at all.

I've got this one too. It's a weird one but it helped a LOT in my early life as a fabricator.

I've also always been better than average at whatever sport I pick up. Cooking is another one. Talking to anyone, anywhere. Public speaking. Striking up a conversation with a perfect stranger.

Got this weird deal where whatever hobby I take up I obsess over it until I'm good at it (this one might not actually be a gift), like playing music. I play 4 instruments, 3 of them pretty well.

Knowing when someone is full of shite, no matter how hard they try to mask it. Probably because I do all the same things which makes it easy to see it in other people.

No such thing. You just switch from task to task and back again.

There is definitely such a thing. You probably suck at it, as I do. My wife, on the other hand, can cook, talk on the phone, and watch grandchildren all at the same time.

I have an uncanny ability to remember completely worthless shite that has no relevance to my life for decades....and then forget things that actually are important.
