Expansions at Norco and new biodiesel plants are all about meeting CA's 40% biodiesel mandates. Biodiesel plants cannot be built in CA due CO2 emissions.

Client associated with the one announced for Funroe area tole me its CA and all about making $6+ per gallon produced via sales and tax credits, FOB railcar.

Glad that I don't live in CA and have to pay for nonsensical state mandates

You answered your own question. Its simply CA attempting to get rid of "big oil" by making gas expensive as possible. I'm really hoping they go forward with it. I'd love for everyone to see how our electrical infrastructure as outdated as it is, will completely fail with just a minor increase in electrical vehicles that need to charge for 8 hours every night.

The push, even in CA, is towards green energy. This includes a bunch of different aspects in production including carbon capture and digesting, solar and wind providing power to plants, biodiesel, low sulfur, and ethanol production from things like waste vegetation/wood.

All which emit CO2 and why ethanol plants are scarce or demolished in CA. This why the closest ones are in Nevada

I'm not promoting or saying these places don't emit CO2. I'm not fond of California or fuel ethanol except in racing.

And I think you mean, Nevada (city), Iowa? I'm not the utmost expert on ethanol, but I do have a background in it. It's more economical to produce ethanol at the feedstock source and then transport ethanol. In California you have Pacific/Alto, Aemetis, Calgreen, and a few others, like I said, making the push for green energy and low/zero carbon footprint. There are several new technologies, hardware/equipment improvements, and of course a government willing to give incentive and tax breaks for "green" energy.

I was going to make a post about something similar. It is all part of a plan for the government to gain full control of the food supply. In the very near future expect to see major mandatory increases in ethanol and biodiesel. The lasted tax plan is a death nail for family owned businesses especially farms and ranches. Ranchers and cattle producers are on the chopping block as we will see beef forced out by government regulations. The bone that the government thinks it is throwing farmers is the increases in price of commodities due to the greater ethanol and biodiesel mandates. Welcome to the efficiency of the post office I the food supply.

Most biodiesel is made from rendered fat from slaughterhouses and used oil from deep fryers at restaurants. They hydrocrack the fat, similar to how vacuum gasoil is hydrocracked in a refinery,

The first wave of biodiesel plants which was esterfication of soybean oil with methanol are all demolished but some still stand idle.

A client designed and built 28 all of which are gone.

Many small farmers have become LLC or Inc for tax reasons. They are not large corporations. Many are share croppers or contractors and making bank off of corporate landholdings. These farmers are the majority stockholders of all but a few ethanol plants.

I did a paper in college about the overall effects and ethics of using food as fuel and during the research I went way down that rabbit hole. That was 10 years ago so I bet its more horrific now. Id like to see the whole post.
