Look, I used to have fun sliding and rolling down those things too, but if there's true historic value in them they need to be preserved. I wish preserving them could be as simple as posting signs saying to stay off, but we all know morons won't abide by that

It’s not like people are coming to take mounds of dirt away like they did with the pyramids, or the petrified forest.

They are a couple of dirt mounds, not even all that big, with no particular purpose. They are a fun part of campus and great for days out and making memories.

They aren’t anything people will marvel at, or come to see.

“Oooooooh, how magnificent it is. Some dirt, no different than the other dirt around here, but piled up. Let’s make a detour to see it behind a shitty chain link fence. Bring the kids so they can gaze upon the fun some progressives stole away.”

They’ve lasted this long, they aren’t impressive enough to loot, and they are dwarfed by the nearby grandiosity of Tiger Stadium and Mike the Tiger.

Sure, go ahead and ruin some more LSU traditions to satisfy pretty much no one. See how the budget looks going forward.

I knew the guy personally and talked with him about the incident. I most certainly do. Do you?

ugh if these are the oldest man made thing on earth i think they have been preserved very well outside of taking an excavator to them. and i highly doubt these are the OLDEST thing out there when they have found things from original settlements of some of the first humans. LSU isnt ground zero of made made stuff.

They should get rid of the Indian mounds and put a parking lot there.

Very LSU.

It's a temporary setup until drawings/funding can be provided for a permanent barrier

ugly as sin

The student government are the ones who demanded this be done. It was part of the racial stuff going down last year

Not a rumor. It happened.

I do remember this happening when I was at LSU in 84 or 85. Courtenay Elizabeth Smoak was her name. You can still find tidbits about it from old articles online. They put up the low brick wall around the mounds some time after that to keep cars from driving on them. Not sure why they have the posts up now.

It was Fall 84. Courtenay was a friend of mine.

Those are foundation posts for a 7-11 that's going to built on top of the mounds.
