I think about going to live in a retirement community or assisted living every day.

Aw what's up, blueridgeTiger? I didn't know you were an old timer. I appreciate posters like you because you bring a certain wisdom to this place that I think a lot of younger morons like myself lack here.
Anyway, nice meeting you and thank you for posting here.

I guess if you have no kids or nothing to leave them when you are gone then whenever.
Those places cost bucks and they will take everything you have.

I'm pushing 50-years-old and would go tomorrow, if I could.
Those lucky old bastards get three square meals a day, their own room, naps, and a TV.
As a married guy with two kids, I'm envious.

Not going to want to do it until I am a danger to myself, so my kids will probably have to end up convincing me. Ideally, I'll stay active and mentally alert and live at home until God comes for me.

Well, the basement living millennials are already there.

Hold on let me ask my butler what day he started.

Depends entirely on the challenges that person is facing. Major physical or psych issues can really make assisted living a much better option for everyone.
And I know someone in their late 40s that are in a very nice assisted living facility with her family close by. Outside of the Covid outbreak, it was the perfect situation for her and her family.

The second I felt like I was about to become a burden for my children.

Haven't thought that far ahead yet. I do plan on picking back up the Marlboro and Camels again sometime in my 70's.

If I was single and over fifty, I would be there. Lots of mature single women.

I think a cruise ship would be more fun. You have housekeeping, room service, new ports all the time, plenty of food options, and a medical team.

Assisted living is not cheap. Had a relative have to resort to it this past year. He pays $3500 or so a month for a tiny little non updated place. One bedroom and one bath. Living room and breakfast area are together and small. Kitchen is tiny. Has a sink and fridge. No oven and I'm not sure if he has burners. He could have two. He has a microwave that is his. He does have a little bit of yard in a small patio area, but they don't keep that up or plant anything there. The food is bad and, of course, you eat when they say you eat, so be up early and be ready for supper at 5.
He is hanging in there because he has to. Thankfully, he has the money to pay for it, but it does not feel like home to him.
