What's the youngest age of kids you'd take tubing down Bogue Chitto?

6 or 7. Same age I started going on raft trips. I would still make them wear a life vest until I knew they were really good at treading water.

Tard. I don't care how old a kid or an adult is I'm not bringing him tubing if he can't swim. Some people think the tubes are a safety device. They're not; they're a floating device.

4-5. Put them in a life vest if they can't tread water for at least 3 minutes.

It's real easy to get thrown out of the tube and trapped under a log in the river when tubing if the current is strong, and easy for an adult to be separated from the child. Life jacket may not be enough if they are trapped. I would make sure they can swim and are strong enough to get themselves out of a jam. Probably 7-8 years old for most kids but I have nephews and nieces that age whom I would not take now because they are too weak, physically.

But the BC didn't have strong current. I'd let damn near any kid on that river. Just different equipment depending on the swim strength. I did tubing trips on class 1s when I was 6, but I was a very good swimmer at that age. And that was an unsupervised trip with my sister and two cousins, so between 6-8.
I'm guessing my parents did filthy things in that mountain cabin.

i got 5 almost 6 yr old girl who swims a little (learning) but obviously will have life jacket.

will them double tubes make it much easier to protect the kids when an adult is with child on double tube?

lack of consistent opportunities to be in the pool. we never signer her up for swim lessons, she's coming along at her own pace. She can swim now, but still in the still gotta watch her stages.

Depends, if you go float from Stallins to Dillon's bridge, it's more family so being young is probably ok. If you go to the choo choo, that's ultimate trash.

I dont know anything about Chitto. unless its Whisky-Chitto? I would not let a 6 years old do this. The current is slow but there is enough to trap a 6 year old between a low branch and the water. JMHO

Yeah, it won't be a problem, just less room for stuff. Just make sure they put their arse on the bottom, otherwise you'll get to heavy and probably flip at some point. Especially since it doesn't sound like you've got a ton of paddling experience.
I find tubing a little dull. It's weird not having a paddle to move around as I please. But tubing is better than not being on a river.
Btw, where are you coming from? There might be better rivers to paddle, closer to you.
