Dead armadillo, two or three days. The armor slows the drying process, which maximizes the percolation of funk.

The entire New Orleans area in the aftermath of Katrina. A smell one can never forget.

Haven't smelled alot of these thank goodness. A rice mill burned down across the street from my house in high school. Luckily, it was raining and the fire dept got it put out.

My house had all the paint bubbled up and grass killed from the heat. Anyway, the next following weeks were 95+ degrees every day, and that wet, burnt, mildewed rice produced a smell and swarm of flies you just wouldn't believe. Yikes.

When I was 13 or 14 years old I had to help my father haul off a dead steer that had been hit by lightning a couple of days before (had to wait that long for the pasture to dry out enough so that the truck wouldn't get stuck). It may not be the worst smell in the world but it was bad enough for me.

My brother and I got to discover our mom after she’d been dead for a week. It’s beyond description especially knowing what it is.
