Best restaurants? Breweries? Hikes? Other shite to do?
Moved out here a week ago. Figuring it out as I go. Any other coonasses out here?

It's reasonably close to Chapel Hill girls.

The Hibernian on Glenwood is a cool bar

It's a city in North Carolina but that's not important right now

Go to Moore square. Plenty of bars and eateries there within walking distance. Irish pub and several specialty local micro brews offered around. Need to just walk around and even ask the locals their favorite bar and beers to try.

Lots of chain restaurants and no decent seafood, but other than that, it’s a great place to live. Towards downtown there are a lot of good places to eat that cater to the younger crowd.
Raleigh has a greenway trail going all ver the city where you can bike or walk. A lot of it follows the Neuse river.
And yes, I am a coonass.

Bars in Raleigh are on Glenwood South. If you want a world class taproom hit the Raleigh Tap Room, if you want Bourbon I'd do Dram and Draught.
Durham is Brightleaf or Main.
Chapel Hill is Franklin Street if you want college scene.
There are outstanding restaurants in all three cities.

coonasses
Careful with the verbage around nonbaws.
I dropped a "coonass" phrase one time and an entire room of Brooklyn hipsters stopped immediately and stared at me like I had 5 eyeballs.

Went for a night in May. Didn’t get to do much but i liked the scene. Figure it’s nice in fall.

Restaurants we like:
Firebird's Wood Fired Grill, near North Hills Mall. Steaks & a nice bar.
Winston's on Fall of the Neuse Blvd
42 Street Oyster Bar
And if you really want to go high end:
The Angus Barn
I have been told there are good Italian restaurants in Wake Forest (not the University, that's in Winston Salem). But have not checked any out.
There are a lot of bars & restaurants in the general area of 42 Street. Just explore that area.
If you are looking for places for college age folks; check out the areas around NC State (Raleigh); UNC (Chapel Hill), or Duke (Durham).
Generally, you will find the seafood is not as good as LA. However, there is a company near Kenly, NC that is farming crawfish. Just learned about that last week & it's my understanding they sell to the general public, not just restaurants.
There are numerous state forest and National Forest with a variety of activities. There is a forest just west of Raleigh, near the airport (name escapes me).
If you like baseball there are the Durham Bulls and near Zebulon the Mudcats.
Raleigh also has a pro hockey team and a soccer team, the Rail Hawks I think is the name.
You are about 4 hours from Asheville and 4 hours from the outer banks; 5 hours to DC and 5 to Charleston, SC.

Any of Ashley Christensen's restaurants are amazing:
-Beasley's Chicken and Honey is a casual and reasonably priced.
-Death and Taxes is high end, but worth it.
She has a few others, but I haven't visited those.
-The Angus Barn is an experience that everyone in Raleigh needs to have at least once. The food is just okay, but the service and ambiance are second to none. Do the wine cellar tour--its free--just ask your server.
Umstead Park near the airport is a nice urban park with hiking trails.
Both downtown Raleigh and downtown Durham have great night life. They are both very safe and very clean. I haven't been to downtown Chapel Hill, but I hear the bars there are very cool as well, but a more college aged crowd.
Two hours from the Wilmington / Carolina Beach area. Its an easy trip down I-40 and worth it.
Overall, it is an amazing place to live.
