I don't have any poor stories.

the 2 months between graduating college and starting my first job
I lived off credit cards for those 2 months
luckily I got a signing bonus which helped pay those credit cards off once I started

No matter how broke I was in college, I always had money for beer for some reason.

I had less than $1000 to my name on a few different occasions in college. But my parents were subsidizing my life back then so I wasn't really poor.
So I guess right after college when I got my first job and the stimulus package came to a screening halt I was fairly poor. Never in debt though.

College without a doubt.
After rent and insurance I had $120 to last 2 weeks, including gas. Ramen, tap water, dollar menu, always had enough money for beer.
Funny how that works out.
I feel like I'm broke now. I just got married have a tiny bit of credit card debt (interest free) from honeymoon and about to borrow to get wife a new car because hers is breaking too much. She is a nurse so she doesn't make much, I do ok, but its still early in my career and I'm not in 6 figures by any means.
However if my college self had the money we make, it would've felt like I was Bill fricking Gates.

College. Bank account containing about $28, no meal plan, two weeks til payday. Headed to the crappy Wal-Mart off Perkins for a case of Diet Dr. Thunder, store brand pop-tarts, about 15 ramen noodles, some lunchmeat & cheese, and a loaf of bread.
I remember going to wrap my sandwich for lunch and pulling off the last bit of aluminum foil-- not big enough to wrap it. So I used two sheets of loose leaf paper instead.
Vowed then and there to not live paycheck to paycheck ever again if I could help it.

In college I could maintain a sub $5 checking account for a week
Ditto. And still eat and get wasted.
It was quite a feat.

in college, I would regularly go to a BBQ place that had a free condiment bar
the condiment bar had a stack of white bread, so I would go, get a glass of water, and grab a few slices of bread to dip in BBQ sauce for lunch...for free
I survived off that, Taco Bell, Totinos pizza and easy mac
no wonder I got fat in college

Sold blood plasma twice a week
Did this my first year at LSU because I realized I had no money to go to Mardi Gras. They had some special at the time, $125 for twice in your first week, then like $80 a week after that.
Went to NOLA with about $200 in my pocket, bought a handle of Skoal Vodka and a Polar Pop. Went home two days later with about $160.
Dark days.

Sold blood plasma twice a week--$40 a month. Paid my rent--which should give you an idea as to how po I was.
Same here, plus working a student job at LSU and bussing tables at night to pay for beer and tuition.
I didn't even have a checking account until my senior year in college. My sister-in-law couldn't believe it. I figured there was no reason to have one with little or no money in it.
I'm fairly well off now, but those were some of the best times I ever had.

Also in college: pulling my rattletrap Honda Civic up to the gas pump on fumes, pumping two dollars exactly, because I only had $5 in my wallet & needed to eat later (99 cent Whopper, of course). Gas was about $1.10 a gallon or less, so that would get me 50-60 miles at least.
On occasion, I'd go over my a penny or two and have to go scrounging in the seat cushions for the change so I wouldn't have to break my ones.
I think about that probably every 5th time I pump $50 of gas without batting an eye now.

Huh? I am *not* a bum. I'm a jerk. I once had wealth, power, and the love of a beautiful woman. Now I only have two things: my friends, and... uh... my thermos. Huh? My story? Okay. It was never easy for me. I was born a poor black child. I remember the days, sittin' on the porch with my family, singin' and dancin' down in Mississippi...
