I have the same nightmare every few years since I can remember that really messes me up for a day or two after. I'm just doing something mundane...cleaning house...working in the yard....and encounter this completely black mass that has a vaguely humanoid figure. It stops me in my tracks...imobilizes me and then my reality starts to completely breakdown. Like the walls the ground the sky everything just starts to distort, melt. Like world is being sucked into a black hole It's like the worst acid trip I can imagine.. I wake upand feel nauseated

A recurring thing to happen in my dreams is the inability to land a punch. It's fricking weird. I'll be dreaming about some situation and go to punch someone and I just come up empty...like I can't extend my arm to even try to punch.

Also experienced "exploding head syndrome" once which was was one time too many. Was drifting off to sleep and thought someone literally shot me in the fricking head. I literally heard my head "explode". Craziest shite I've ever experienced.

It’s called “the old hag” syndrome and is all part of “lucid dreaming” and most often occurs in the morning before you awaken.

Google lucid dreaming and you will find some fascinating information. Most often occurs when you are taking some medications (legal or illegal) on a regular basis such as antidepressants or anti anxiety meds. Not saying you have to be hooked but lucid dreaming is often connected.

Lucid dreaming is also connected to sleep paralysis because it is the body’s defense mechanism to keep us from acting out our dreams.

All of this is common and not to be feared. Lucid dreaming can be a lot of fun and you can actually learn to control them and do such things as fly, walk through walls and even control (to an extent) sex dreams.

Next time you feel the demon on your back, command it to do something or tell it to leave. It will.

Really cool stuff. I use to have them regularly and looked forward to them. But they have largely gone away since I no longer need pain meds (bad knee) and the like to sleep. I miss them; they’re intense and fun.

Not really unsettling, but I have a recurring dream where I’m going down a semi-major road in my hometown and instead of a prominent landmark at a particular spot, there’s a portal to an entirely different town. Each dream though there’s something different about that town. Like one time it was all Hispanics living there, one time the whole town was just a huge shopping center, another every single person was carrying a cat.

It’s always a little weird driving down that road in real life.

I dream about driving a car and then being lifted out of the car and having to remotely drive my car and another car

I float higher and higher, ever higher as I rise the cards become more difficult to control I dodge and weave managing to miss hitting every other car

in my dream I'm stressed but no dies

Also a result of sleep paralysis — keeps you from breaking your hand by punching the wall or your wife. The body’s defense mechanism is strong.

Kind of like running in place while fleeing. Keeps you from running out of the bed and into a wall.

Dreams normally take placed or a reason. Repressed fears, desires, worries, etc. such as not being prepared for a test, naked in class, not recognizing faces.

Overeating and booze also fuel nightmares in addition to anxiety and fear.

Used to have a banshee dream.

I would be in a dark room looking out a window at a moonlit yard with a dead tree in the center. There were wisps of fog.

Then, this pale figure would be walking and come in from the right. It would slowly walk into the center of the window, under the tree.

Most of the time, it would look to its left at me through the window with hollow black eyes, then turn back and keep walking.

Two times, it stopped, turned and faced me and then ran through the window, smashing the glass and its withered, skin covered skull would be in my face screaming with a blood curdling shriek.

Those two times, someone I knew died unexpectedly with a week.

Very realistic setting. Standing in my yard and watching the silhouettes of large alien war ships covering the night’s sky. Not everyone could see them as they were nearly black against the black sky.

In my early 20s I would dream about my grand paw. He would be sitting on a log under a big oak tree.. I would sit down beside him and he would tell me everything is gonna be fine. When I would try to ask him a question he would dissapear..

Here lately I've been dreaming about feeding chickens in the yard. But then I discover a pen with chickens in it that seems like I forgot to feed for a few weeks.. no water and a few dead ones. Then I wake up.

I dreamed about being in a passenger plane that was crashing. I was in sheer terror, and knew for a certainty I was going to perish. I could see the Earth getting closer and closer through the window. And then, the fall just kept going and going and I thought, "Why aren't I dead yet. And then suddenly, consciousness woke me. My whole body was drenched in sweat. It was actually a very terrifying experience that I hope never happens again.
