All around 17-18 years old

1 mile. Just under 5 minutes

5k. 18:12

10k. 38 minutes

I've run faster in practice for 5k and 10k but these were official times for races

Mile: 5:20
5K: 18:10
10K: Not 100% sure of exact time. Sub 37

High School buddy of mine got a free ride on a 4:43 mile 25 years ago. Has high school times got that much better in the past 25 years?

In what sense? They are within a reasonable range on the IAAF points tables. I'd expect a guy who could run one of those times to be capable of all the others depending on what his training was focused on at the time.

Never tried to run a timed mile.

23 minutes for 5k, age 40 something. Never ran a 5 k til 40's.

52 minutes for 10 k age 40 something. Only run a couple of these.

The above times are certified as fact.

A 4:43 is not in the top 350 high school seniors in the country this year. It would get precisely $0 dollars.

No. 4:43 would have been slow 25 years ago.....where did he go to college? Even a 4:15 guy 25 yrs ago would have only gotten 1/4 scholly.....there are very few track guys that get full rides.

Yeah, US HS running wasn't deep then, but 4:43 has never been worthy of a full ride. I'm guessing the guy may have received books on a crappy team and misled his buddies into thinking he was a full-ride recruit.

Lol wut? Two high school runners ran under 4:00 for a mile last year (hint: a mile is longer than 1600 meters). Someone running under 5:00 would be lucky to be varsity for any decent team.

My best mile time was 5:02 when I was 17 years old.

It only got me third place.
