What’s the fascination with painting train cars?

And where the frick do they get the money for so much damned spray paint? I'm not sure I’ve even seen a clean untagged rail car, why do people enjoy spray painting them so much? To destroy property, paint things that sometimes look cool but 99.99% of the time just looks like crap, never see it again or ever get recognition for your work, and will just get painted over anyways.

Unless you put it on the i12 overpass in Slidell. That shits been there for as long as I can remember.

Why train cars? They are often parked in remote places and especially covered hoppers have large smooth surfaces painted in solid colors with few logos. Often the rail companies leave them if the data plates aren't painted over. Plus the "art" gets moved around and seen by lots more people than on an alley wall.

I'll be honest I'm pretty fascinated by it. I always like to read the tags and such as they go by. Makes me wonder where they came from and what the story was. Some talent out there too.

They travel across the country where everyone can see it. Helps spread your message.

I look but I always end up saying to myself wtf is that? I love concert posters though. They’re kinda similar in some regard I guess.

If it can be done right, some things are always forgivable.

Chollos gonna chollo. Has anybody ever seen an engine that got tagged?

Sure but they are usually on commuter or other non-Class 1 railroads. The most famous one on a Class 1 is the UP "Tiger".

Honestly, I love it. 95% of it sucks and is just retarded, but that other 5% is usually badass.

The guy that did this knows the game. He didn't paint over the reporting marks so the railroad likely won't frick up his work.

That's why I chose that picture. They avoided concealing both the reporting marks and the consolidated stencil on the other end and at the same time made it part of the art by framing it and embellishing the reporting marks without obscuring them. It also shows how even a tag can be tagged.
In the end, it is vandalism but I must admit I would buy the paint if Banksy would tag my house.

I saw car carrier cars on a train the other day. All tagged up. I was wondering how much spray paint made it to the cars through the slats.

I think it should be harder to buy spray paint than it is to buy liquor or sudafed.
Limits too.
I also think they need to allow owners to booby trap walls.
