That's actually the best part. Our mind doesn't need to be occupied all of the time.

Either some stupid shite in the marine corps or some drunk nights after the bar

16 miles in one day…probably about 30 over a 3 day trip to Yosemite

Some of you guys just can’t seem to afford a car.

In the Nam, we grunts up near the DMZ walked all day, every day, up, down, around and never seemed to get anywhere. It wasn’t the miles but the mileage.

I’ve hiked from my car to the breakfast buffet at the Piccadilly and back.

I didn't believe that going downhill was harder.
Anyone who's done any sort of leg workout knows the scariest part is trying not to smash the toliet into the floor the day or two after.

Probably not the farthest, but certainly the most surprisingly difficult after a night of drinking at the lodge.
I hiked the Devil's Staircase in Grand Teton's once. I learned that you should avoid hiking anything with the word Devil in it.

I did a rim to rim to rim starting on April 1st, just by coincidence. It seemed pretty appropriate after a day or two.
Down S Kaibab to Phantom Ranch. Up the North Rim Trail to Cottonwood Campground. Went past Roaring Springs to the North Rim the next day and returned to Cottonwood. Descended to the bottom of the canyon and ascended on Bright Angel Trail to Indian Gardens. Hiked out the next morning in snow and to a dead battery in my car. frick me!
I can't remember how many miles it was - about 35 or 40? - but there was a shitload of elevation loss and gain. And then again.
It was a workout.

I've done a few 40 mile trail races which was more running than walking but that would probably be my furthest.
