Not on that hike thankfully. Saw a few up in Washington. This one was munching hard on some blueberries down in this valley with a lake at the bottom about 100 yards away from the trail.

Only 32 miles in 5 days while in the Grand Canyon. Sad……

I've done a 30 mile in two day backpacking trip before. I think I'll hike at least half of the AT when my dad dies.

I backpacked in my youth in the tetons. We had a permit that let us stay for a week. Don't know how far but it was an awesome experience. Except when we got chased by a moose. Those things are huge.

25 miles towards the end of SOI at Camp Pendleton with its hilly terrain. As a machine gunner, not only did we have to hump with a 75# Alice pack and M-16...we had to rotate an M-60 with tripod and a .50 cal disassembled(60# receiver, 24# barrel and 44# tripod) amongst our platoon of about 24 Marines.
Thought I’d be smart and go with lighter jungle boots that hadn’t been broken in yet...dumb move on my part as my feet were blistered so bad at the end, I thought I was walking on glass.

~10 miles in one day and ~25 over 3 or 4 days on easy to moderate hikes.

I did the AT in the 80s but broke it into 3 summers due to time. The longest leg was just over 800 miles.
Even at that age with feet like rocks it was all about the feet. Because I had never had issues with my feet while backpacking I had to learn the hard way. That being said boots and socks are much better (and lighter) today and I could also afford my pick.

I'm highly considering walking home to Arkansas from Spokane, WA after I retire from the military next summer. Not sure why. I just want to do it.
Looks to be about 1800 miles.
Why not hike one of the trails?

If I am healthy enough at retirement I would like to do the Appalachian Trail from Maine to Georgia.
Apparently a lot of people do this starting in the Spring (probably starting in Georgia given time and season).
I don't think I would enjoy camping for months at a time but I figure stopping in a hotel every 2 to 4 days to clean up would make it easier.

If you still want to pluck it, you can have it. My Cajun upbringing ain't made for much higher.

I started to the store 3 blocks away and went in the wrong direction.
Thank God the Earth is round. I got there. So, I'm guessing it was 25,000 miles.

My homeless brother in law biked from Miami to Thibodaux. Combination walking / biking. He is bipolar and was manic at the time.

If I recall it was 16 miles in 1 day at Vicksburg.
