Pretty sure you and I know one another. If not directly, I’m sure we know several folks in common.

In 1990 or 91 after losing to Ferriday year after year after year in DYB All Stars, I coached a team that finally was able to beat them in the Sub District tournament and win it.

After the game Mr Perry and his friend (I believe his name was Mack) both came and congratulated me. Thought it was classy.

My paw-paw used to take me camping/fishing at Lake Bruin when I was a kid. I hadn’t been by there in years Last year I went thru Newellton to Lake Bruin taking Hwy 605. The depressing part started with the gas station at the corner of Hwy 65.

Laurel valley Rd. Connects small community of Choctaw to Thibodaux. Old slave houses are still standing there. Curvy road with no lights.

Standard answer tends to be Ferriday.

I never thought of having to be extra cautious of randos walking on/across the "skreet" to be creepy, just annoying.

There are parts of downtown Ellick that will make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up in broad daylight. That town is a frickin ruin.

New Orleans has a tourism industry just for this.

I mean that would be true of any plantation. People in New Orleans live in shittier and smaller dwellings than that. Still places there with slave quarters too.

These old plantations are essentially just museums.

Here is a pic from Laurel.

So spooky...

Scenic Highway, EBR. Nothing scenic about it.

Imagine all the bodies that have never been found.

I lived in Oakdale for four years.

I think Bob The Terrible just claims to be from there.

The slave house pics are on the part of the road that gets closer to Thibodaux. The closer you get to the other end (Choctaw) the creepier it gets, imo. Don’t have any pics to post but it’s mostly swamp and beat down houses. Probably wouldn’t want to break down at night back there.

It gets worse.

I lived in Lake Providence, Arcadia, Vivian and more.

Dad was a minister. Moved at least every four years. Sometimes every year.

Probably one reason I'm an a-hole. These places don't take kindly to newcomers.

I have an uncle I visit often who has a place in Bogalusa. This is the correct and only answer.

It is sad, really. I spent a little time there as a child in the mid 70's. It was a good little sleepy country town, despite the paper mill smell. But they closed a couple of factories and a lot of the families moved away to find work. With the families leaving and the old folks dying, the place turned into a ghetto pretty quick.
