Mine was not going on a first date with my now wife. My best friend and his then GF kept bugging me to ask out her best friend, and I kept saying no. I was 24 and I had finally committed myself to just working and making as much money as I could and climbing the corporate ladder. It was a visit with my grandmother who was battling cancer and undergoing chemotherapy treatments that told me I needed to find some balance in my life. When I got home from that visit I called my friend and told him to set it up so I could meet this girl and the rest is history. That was 25 years ago.

but there are times where i still would like to give it another shot. kids man. kids. coming from a broken home sucks. and now i am in a broken home all over again.

Deciding I’d had enough, when there was so so so much more left.

Being in that deepest darkest hole and not realizing how much I’d miss. Smiles, laughs, I love yous. Lullabies, tailgates, games. Vacations, memories, friends.

All the joys that seemed so lost and hopeless in the cold and dark.

But that hopelessness is a lie, like always.
Because the sun will rise, and we’ll go on, and learn that that wasn’t the end of everything. Just a bump. A pothole. Even if it is a New Orleans sized one.

The road is longer than we think if we just keep going

On a real note, trying to make a relationship work that would've just drained me and my will to enjoy life.

Almost proposing to a college girlfriend. I had the ring and plans to propose. I was blind to how awful she was in some ways because when she was not being awful, she was pretty awesome. We went out to the bars one night after I'd bought the ring, and she flirted with every doorman trying to avoid paying cover charge, then willingly allowed a guy to buy her a couple of drinks. I dumped her the next morning and hated myself for weeks for allowing myself to be disrespected like that because it wasn't the first time things like that had happened. Of course, I later found out she had banged a couple of other guys while we were together.

Not of one the biggest, but one comes to mind. I was being heavily recruited by a competitor (they were a locally owned smaller company), I met the owner and the president of sales. I was just hesitant because of the perceived way they did business.
About 4 years later they went bankrupt.

I was a pharmacy tech in the sterile admixture room at OLOL 20 years ago and accidentally made a batch of pediatric rocephin buretrols 10 times too concentrated. The pharmacist didn’t catch the error and I delivered them. When I returned to the pharmacy, I somehow realized an hour later what I did and hauled arse like never in my life to get them back.

None of the doses were given, but I remember having to sit down in the stairwell with those buretrols and cry a little thinking I could have killed multiple sick children with that near miss.

ETA The IV pharmacist on duty was also very shaken. It is not always easy to identify those types of errors after dilution and this specific incident steered me away from the hospital setting. I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night signing off on thousands of clear solutions every day that I didn’t mix myself.

Went through the entire process but could not sign the papers to join the Navy after college. So happy I got cold feet.

I’m about to be getting divorced. Never thought it would happen but even though she has wronged me I’m having the most trouble walking away from the family and what we have built. Broken homes are way too common these days. People don’t realize that you can’t just walk away.

Also my advice to anyone getting married that has any assets to speak of. Prenup

Driving out of Wayside park in Fort Walton, I pulled in front of a pickup that almost t-boned me. Thank God the dude was alert and avoided my stupidity. Yes, I should have not been behind the wheel. I can still see that truck today 35 years later..

I drew up adenosine once when I was a new medic for a low heart rate, was meaning to draw up atropine, the adenosine had accidentally been put in atropine box. Fortunately I realized it right before giving it and double checked the vial

I was married 15 years before my divorce and she reached back out after the divorce was finalized to be friends. Luckily my close friends reminded me that we separated for a reason and to not try and put the shite back up my arse.

Almost chased after (by offering to marry) a girl that was moving from Louisiana to Orlando, my gf for about 2 years at the time. I hesitated, and then she ended up leaving me for a "friend".

She has a kid now, who she ended up abandoning to the baby daddy, somewhere in Pennsylvania (while she now lives in Texas). She turned into a complete nutbag later in life. Good riddance; I've been with my wife for over 15 years now. That girl can keep her wrecked life and I'll keep my good life.
