What's stopping you NOLA peeps from forming a militia?
I'm my own militia, I'm good.

Y'all are the ones that have to live in that shite. If y'all are happy with all that crime then by all means, enjoy it.

I actually don't think it would reduce crime by any significant level. It's not like this militia could shoot at people committing property crimes, and the people doing this are not afraid of going to jail, especially when the person who'd show up to testify is a militia member. The only way to drastically reduce that stuff is to have enough police to quickly respond, capture, or arrest through detective work and eliminate them from the streets with the multiple offender law. It needs to be the police, because juries aren't going to believe a random guy walking around in a high crime area who stumbled upon something while open carrying and is part of a militia.
As far as crimes of violence, an armed presence will not deter the shootings and murders at all. These aren't random crimes, these are retaliation killings and drug rips. A significant portion of the time, the victim of the crime is armed. These shootings aren't deterred by even a law enforcement presence, hence why you'll see people shoot on Bourbon St., at parades and second lines where there are police on horseback just yards away.

That's a good point that scares outsiders. Cops are defenseless, you and your property values a suffer. No self respecting law abiding person puts themselves in harm's way, on purpose.
Not that it matters but my wife's bunch are crack shots, train routinely, and can take out most people with a finger.
It's random violent street crime that concerns them. Everyone deserves time off for good behavior when they vacation etc., and not have to worry about this shite. Even if you are a trained expert in the field.

As I always say about New Orleans, the best and worst thing about New Orleans is no one gives a frick.

most of the bitching you are reading on here is from people that may visit the city a couple days a year for a bachelor party.
Or you could be reading something from people who has lived and had family in NOLA for generations. But all the locals don't think the crime is bad /s

My family has lived in New Orleans for 5 generations. I'm the last one left still in the city. I grew up knowing that if you didn't look for trouble you would be fine for the most part. Now, trouble is weekly on the interstate. Trouble is outside Commander's. Restaurants have to hire police officers to stop armed robberies. Trouble is in all the "safe" tourist spots at anytime of the day.
My wife (born here & no pics) and I are honestly thinking about moving out of state for our young kids. Just less and less worth staying for. Plus, no other city is worth living in around the state. Budgets are staying negative despite more and more cuts, education is closing more doors and losing quality. Everywhere else is just looking like better deals. New Orleans may become that city to just visit for my family.

I'm not sure what else to do besides be a law abiding tax paying citizen.
Tell me what the average person can actively do to help prevent crime and gov't corruption in a large city. I'm all ears.

The part about the second amendment saying you can't have a militia. Would you mind quoting that.

Are white people getting killed?

Arrested for playing cowboy.
Ding, ding, ding. We have a winner.
In Algiers Point, a neighbor two blocks from our house saw the usual suspect with a crowbar trying to break into a car. She called the police and then went on her front porch to try to scare the perp away. She fired her gun up in the air.
When the cop finally arrived, minutes later, the perp walked slowly away, she told the police what she had done, and the police arrested her for shooting a gun. The perp continued his walk towards Opelousas.

If the violence against tourists doesn't stop soon, the FQ business owners will have to go in with a private security firm like G4S or Wackenhut to fund private security officers that maintain a legal, armed presence on the streets in addition to cops.
Even if the end result is nothing more than a dog and pony show, they'll have to do it.
The NO locals rolling their eyes don't see their town the way others see it. It's understandable.
It's one thing to have crime. It's another thing to have violent crime in the tourist areas in broad daylight, on a regular basis.
