Classics or History Professor.

I don't have the patience for serious academia, but I would love to teach courses at a lower-level regional college one day.

Working as a line cook in the BOH of a semi-nice restaurant was probably the most stressful job I've ever had. Can't imagine the pressure of being an executive chef, especially one with leeway to make their own menu.

A teacher. You have the summer to go see all the movies you want, cook all you want and do tons of traveling. You have Thanksgiving and Winter Break for hunting and skiing. You can post on TD while you give your kids a worksheet. Just hope you don't want a lot of money to do those things.

You're actually 100% correct.

Except add in that the 182 days you do have to work blows monkey balls.

Why do people not pursue what they want to do?

Because by the time we decide what we want to be, it's usually to late, age and education wise. Life gets in the way sometimes.

When I pursued my PhD, I wanted to get into academia because I really enjoy research and teaching. However, because I got into an applied field, I chose an applied job that allows us to be closer to family.

Although I enjoy my job (it generally pays better too), and I still work on research projects with my colleagues and ex-professors, I would still like to get into academia someday.

I got my PPL out of KNEW when I was in high school. One of my good buddies went to Embry-Riddle and I got accepted. Decided at the last minute to go to LSU for free instead of obtaining 200k in debt at ERAU.
