Work on a drilling or workover rig on land. They are usually running 24/7 in some pretty remote areas in the woods

What skills do you possess that can be used in an outdoor(wildlife, woods) type of job?
You can always go to the private sector if you are good enough. If you are willing to move and possibly go out of state there are a bunch of jobs managing private properties.
Some pay a little less but a bunch pay around that, and I know some that pay a good bit over that. They usually come with a truck and some even come with a house included.
The question is if you can get one based you own knowledge, skills, work ethic and social networking.

Kisatchie Natl. Forest. You may have to start at ground zero, but you can work up to a GS-7 if everything aligns right. Maybe even higher depending on your specific job. My wife did it, and that's where she retired at. Her last year salary was in the 60,000.00 area. Plus the benefits all government employees get.

I started a lawn/landscape company in my late 40’s and pay myself in that range. If you have the experience you say, and have a great work ethic, the sky is the limit. Working for yourself is an amazing feeling once you establish your business.
this so you can make more money too and actually build a retirement. cause not trying to be mean, how the hell you gonna retire currently and how long can you realistically go about doing the landscaping job? 65 max?

Can you drive a boat? You could get a job spraying water lillys. A friend of mines brother quit the oilfield to do that. He rides around in a mud boat with a tank on it and is home for 2 everyday.

I have a locked in albeit small pension from being a paramedic. Also rolled over 457 into a Roth and contribute to it. I actually started my retirement investing at 16 working at Albertsons and then on to Home Depot. My wife will have a decent retirement, not great but decent. We aren’t big spenders
Thanks everyone for the advice

Didn’t take it as being mean, it’s a good question that I’ll have to figure out since I’m about to turn 55. My wife has teacher retirement and we have both been investing in retirement funds in our 27 years of marriage. I hope I can do it into my mid to late 60’s to some extent, but I’m pretty industrious and will find a way to make ends meet til I can retire.

There are open positions if you search ldaf employment.
But I doubt the pay is any good for those jobs. One of them you need to be a veteran and it pays 34-37k.
