I recently found out that one of the previous owners of our current office building was a lawyer that worked for drug smugglers and allegedly the cops found a bunch of bricks of cocaine he had hidden in the walls. So a coworker and I are going to try and bring in some thermal imaging and high tech stud finder type equipment to see if we can find any more of the stash or maybe some cash he had hidden away and was previously undiscovered. That brought up the question for us. What would better insulate your walls? Bricks of cocaine, or bricks of cash? There must not be any previous scientific testing on this subject and we cannot find anything on the interwebs to answer this question. So we bring it to the OT. What say you?

I'm gonna (unscientifically) go with cocaine. It would seem that cash will have spots all over in the cash brick that are not solid, allowing heat to escape. You can make a cocaine brick as dense and solid as you want it.

I'm thinking more trapped air in the cash, like the air space in a double wall thermos, or in the styrofoam/fiberglass insulation you would use in construction. I'm going with cash as the cocaine would be very dense and not trap air.

This is a covert after work type mission. I'm not trying to get fired for tearing up the whole office without need.

Im thinking you really don't want either. That seems like a good way to catch your death. Dont want any part of a cartel assoc thinking i had either his drugs or his cash

When you find a few bricks of cash, share it with your OT bros

Cash is printed on a linen paper, so if probably insulates well. But if you do a line of coke, you won’t feel the cold

Cash would have bigger air pockets between bills than cocaine would. I'd have to say cash would be a better insulator.

No need to get fired over it. Tear up the walls, take cash/cocaine, then burn office down.

Could be a wild goose chase, but definitely worth investigating.

Just so I’m clear.

If you do find something based on a stud finder, you’re going to blast holes in the wall at your office.

That should end well for both of you, full steam ahead.

We'd probably investigate further with a small hole and a borescope. Smaller hole to fix if we find nothing.

Don't know which is a better insulator. If you are going to leave it there for 10 years. The money will be worth less than what it is woth today, while the cocaine will be worth more.

Get a gauss meter. It's what border patrol uses.

If you think those guys left anything, I’ve got some beachfront property in Alexandria that’s just perfect for you. I’d guess they found about 2x as much cash/coke as was reported.

That said, I’d be poking around myself if I had the time. Make a friend in the local PD and see if you can borrow their drug dog. Had a buddy in a similar enterprise who would periodically get his detective friend to sweep the office and make sure nothing got planted (or spilled or whatever).

Oh, cash is the better insulator.
