What do you mean by “meet”? Like the instant they pop out? Or once they start to form a personality and can actually connect with you?
I had tears in my eyes after the birth of each of my kids and yes it is the most frustrating and rewarding relationships you’ll ever have in your life.

What You Wish You Knew Before Having Kids
1. Don't buy any new furniture. It will just end up destroyed.
2. When changing a diaper, always keep your face away from pee range. It goes further than you would think
3. Whenever you find a snack that your baby likes, always, and i mean ALWAYS keep some on your person at all times. I avoided countless meltdowns with a well timed nilla wafer
4. Parenting books are mostly pointless
5. Bed time will not mean anything for the 1st few months. Sleep when you can

Or don’t. Formula is fine.

Give up on your dreams and goals in life. Unless your goal is to be a parent, then congrats on achieving your goal.

I think helicopter parenting is a big problem these days.
It is. I was guilty of it to some degree myself. I was raised the opposite.

Breastfeeding is absolutely the way to go if you're able, get a Medela breast pump machine (top of the line) so that she can pump when she returns to work.

I was raised completely opposite.
I had to convince my wife years ago that it's completely normal to let our 9-10 year old daughter tear off on bikes with the neighborhood kids and us not know where she is.
She wasn't raised like that either. 24 hour shock factor news has everyone convinced there's a kid diddler on every corner.

I wish I knew that my wife actually liked the idea of having kids; not actually having them.

My first wife grew up in the country. Parents had 40 acres, would lock the kids out during the day in summer.
We weren't as trusting with ours, and I regret that a lot. I've done different with the grandkids. Give them more autonomy.

Raising children:
First child walks into your room holding a butcher knife. You take the knife away and spend 20 minutes explaining the dangers.
Second child walks in and you quickly take the knife and say you need to be careful or you might hurt yourself.
Third child walks in and you shout," you better not cut any furniture or you will be in big trouble!"

Don’t be so worried about everything with the first kid. Wish I would have acted like I did with my second with my first
Solid advice. And if anyone wants to give you something the only right answer is diapers

My parents separated when I was about 9. We stayed home all summer by ourselves starting around 11, 9 & 7.
We weren't locked up in the house or anything either. I roamed the neighborhood with my friends all day.

We lived 3 blocks from the city baseball fields. My folks knew where to find us...

Same here but I was always at my friends house, they had a farm with 100+ acres and we were always outdoors fishing or riding our bikes. 4th of July was always the greatest of times since their parents would buy a couple bricks of Black Cats which would keep us entertained for weeks.

Before we had kids it was nothing but playing house.
After we had one kid I knew his name.
Now we have two, and names are interchangeable.
Always wondered why my parents would call me and my brother by the wrong names as a child. It comes naturally.

Absolutely was, there was four of them and they were all close in age. We had to move away when the landlord was selling our house but those three years were some of the absolute best in my life. I was incredibly upset when we had to move but it was for the best since I would probably be in prison if we had stayed.
