Recently I called the police on another vehicle. I was sitting at a red light in a turning lane at a large intersection. I caught the light as it turned red so I was sitting awhile. I looked over and there was a vehicle next to me and the female driver was passed out. Like head back, mouth wide open. At first I thought she was yawning or stretching but she didn't move for at least a minute and it became clear she was out. This was 10:00 a.m. on a weekday. There was a guy in the passenger seat who was moving all over the place and appeared to be completely indifferent that his driver was asleep. Her foot must have slipped off the brake the the car moved forward a little and she jolted to and when I saw her eyes she was clearly high AF. Then I saw little hands moving in the back window and realized there was a baby in a car seat. I observed for a while longer and decided that these two were def high and my heart sank for the baby in the back. The light turned green and she punched it through the intersection.

So I decided to get behind her and call 911 to report a possibly intoxicated driver. They pulled into a shopping center and parked and were just sitting. Another vehicle pulled up and a man got out and got into their vehicle. The police arrived about 15 minutes later and pulled everyone out of the car, along with pill bottles, baggies, something that looked like a scale, other unidentified items. They also took the baby from the back seat, who was screaming and put in air conditioned police car. The adults ended up being arrested on a variety of drug charges upon further research. I don't know what happened to the baby.

Do you get involved in this sort of situation or mind your own business? Clearly it was a terrible situation, but what if the kid gets put in foster care? Is that any better? Part of me says mind your own business and keep driving. Part of me says frick those scumbags and maybe saved that baby's life. I have a son about the same age and it made me furious and heartbroken that this baby was being exposed to that shite.

I see this all the time at lights on Siegen with drivers trying to get to the methadone clinic on Reiger Road. Driver or passenger will either be insanely hyper or falling asleep.

What are they putting in that stuff?

You are 100% in the right once babies get involved.

100% you did the right thing IMO. And not only because there is a baby in danger. But someone like that driving around puts everyone else in danger too. There's nothing wrong with calling the cops on someone clearly putting the public at risk like that. The baby is only icing on the cake and makes it an even better decision to me. Good for you, and for all you know you saved lives by doing it (either theirs or someone else's).

Ask yourself this: what if the woman nods off while driving and gets into a head-on collision. The baby is better off in foster care than being loaded into an ambulance.

You had a preponderance of evidence. You had no choice as a moral human being but to call the police.

You did right even if a baby was not involved as them being a danger to themselves and other drivers on the road. A potential victim of their intoxicated driving could be my wife and kids or your wife and kids.

I'd have done the same thing. That baby deserves better than to be put in danger by junkies.

100% you did the right thing - foster care is better than dead and F those a-holes for putting the kid in that situation.

I'm usually a "mind your own business" guy, but I followed a truck for about 3 miles on a straight road and watched him not stay in the lines the entire time and nearly hit a car so I called 911. Be a danger to yourself all you want, but if you risk hurting others, that's a line too far.

Maybe that will be the wake-up call the mother needed to get right. If not, she definitely doesn’t need to raise a kid.

I think you made the right call in that particular situation.

It would take something like child endangerment for me to get involved, but at that point, absolutely.

I'll follow somebody and call for passing me on a double yellow line

I would have told them they needed a swat team for these assholes.

I seem like an arse but I don't play around when it comes to driving safely. And if there's a kid in the car, frick em. You did exactly what you should have done.

What if people are endangering society by not doing the right thing and masking up or getting vaccinated?

Society deserves to be safe from these monsters.

This is literally a conversation I had last week with a family member… Have to say I lost faith in his ability to think for himself that day.

I saw a guy drinking a beer at a red light while he was driving. I called the cops on him.

That was you that called the police? I got your name. I got your arse. You will not laugh. You will not cry. You will learn by the numbers, I won't teach you. Watch your back!

Ive called cops on interstate several times over the years. Its usually on douchey charger looking cars that are obviously racing, or other vehicles driving 20+ over, or swerving badly.

You never know. one call like that could save a carload of lives.
