Honestly that is the part I don’t understand. Maybe the planes would have tipped off the Germans?

To borrow a phrase from noted wordsmith Michael Gerard Tyson, "Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth."

Getting shot in the mouth is even more detrimental to sticking to a plan.

They did bomb the beach. They missed inland.

What beach?

More soldiers died in Operation Tiger training for Utah beach than actually died on Utah beach.
So I'd say, if I survived training, I'd be fine.

But first wave of Higgin's boats, no way you don't shite your pants.

Costly mistake.

LCPL they went over the sides. The LCVP had the ramp because it was faster to get out

Pray.

I bet there wasn't too many atheists when the boat was about to hit land.

When the gate dropped at Omaha my father headed straight for the beach.

And he lived another 70 years.

The weather was also terrible. They had to invade when they did to hit the tides correctly, lest they wait and chance tipping of the Krauts.

After the first several KIA happening immediately in front of my eyes, if I'm in the rear I'm not certain that i would exit. All angles aren't in the line of fire. Duck, cover, pray and wait would be really hard not to do.

Because we tricked many people into thinking Patton was already in France and we had men who set up noisemakers and dummies all over.

It was probably the best planned attack. To see how deep it was thought out by the planners.

Though the one's who get the most credit, wrote the entire plan one a single piece of paper.

Invading Normandy the way we did it was dumb af....we had bombers that could have fricked up that beach up and made it look like the moon before we invaded on ground....

To have to storm the beach while gunners were teeing off inside concrete bunkers, then to even get there, then take it over to destroy their long range cannons and take the beach solely on foot was dumbest shite I've ever read about...

There's lots in play here.

1) We tried to not allow the Germans to know where we were indeed landing because a swift counter attack would have been devastating, especially from Panzers.

2) We did.

Photo from 60 years later

3) Even though we tried, we were getting tons of anti-aircraft fire obviously, and the planes of yesteryear weren't great bombers.

Honestly your best bet would be to run forward as fast as possible.

You cant be serious right?

We bombed the ever living frick out of the beach head. You do realize that naval guns are quite large.. Right? Just so happens that the bombing was largely ineffective due to the entrenched nature of the gun emplacements on the bluffs.

Also, there was a pre-landing air bombing raid. It was largely ineffective due to overcast weather and in an attempt to not hit our own guys ended up dropping their load too far inland.

Do you really think we just said ok guys. Have at it. No pre-landing bombardment for you!

Not how we process. Plus if we are wrong. 50% chance he wants us to die as much as survive.

A zigzag pattern is supposedly the most effective way to dodge bullets. Makes it impossible to shoot where you're going to be.

But all bets are probably off with a large scale invasion. The enemy will just fire into the crowd and it's the luck of the draw.

just like in sports, trying to plan how not to die, is the same as playing not to lose (prevent defense), in both cases you are more likely to fail, then if you just go in and attack hard and fast and hope and pray for the best that you come out a winner.

What?

If they committed that much to one area the Germans would have known where we were coming.

Turn off TD and go look up how big Normandy was from Utah to Sword.
