true, but in todays age of revisionist history and reparations it's borderline as to whether there's a push from here to forget about their barbarism and savage past

Japs are lucky they not required to speak English.. Had they won you can bet this thread would be in Japanese. They can ask to remove all but will never happen

Japan does not have a traditional military, they do have a Self Defense force.

Japan already has a lot of financial hardships, there is 0% chance they would remove our military and have to build their own, costing billions/trillions

japan is practically willingly pacifist because of their past, it's written into their consitution to renounce war as a right of the state itself.

they have begun a period of rearmament but nothing that would get in the way of a chinese invasion if the US removed its armed forces.

Well they have kicked the USMC out of Okinawa.

Not only ask them to leave. But footing most of the bill to get them out

On a side note. We get the 1st USMC new base in like 50 years. For 3/4 of the cost.

Seems like I once read the Japanese killed off over 20 million Chinese in WWII. Even if that number isn’t even half that, I’m sure the Chinese would still like to put a boot up Japans arse. The Japanese were very cruel to their concurred territories. Doubt the U.S. will ever pull out nor will we be asked to. Unfortunately our country has to protect specific countries or little wars will fester in big ones.

I can attest to this, in the late 80's a young Marine officer was shot & killed, they were threatining to take back the island. The unit I was stationed with happened to be on "DRF" at that time, 12hr recall. So we were "wheels up", with issued ammo headed to Okinawa...

How about you explain to us why Japan would want to boot the most powerful military in the world off their land? Why would Japan want to use more of their money when the US is willing to use theirs?

Calm down, this is just a ‘What if’ discussion.

I’m pretty sure the US has rights to stay & operate military bases since Japan’s surrender at end of WWII

The treaty has been revised to remove some of the more oppressive features in the original Treaty of San Francisco.

One provision was enabling either party to break the treaty as long as they give the other party a minimum of a years notice.

The Japs were never going to invade here. The "everyone will be communist if the Japs won" was a big crock of shite.

To answer OP, We'd drop another bomb before we ever give up our military.

It would be a disaster. They’re too used to capitalism and western style of life to change their ways. Plus they couldn’t live under the thumb of the Chinese
