The second the government started weaponizing the internet is what went wrong with the internet. That and we have now allowed a couple nerds with vendettas to hold pretty much all our information hostage.

When the internet switched from being a place for anonymous discourse. Think about it, places like Facebook, etc where people aren't anonymous are by far the worst places for any type of discussion.
With anonymous discussion, someone with a ridiculous point would be ridiculed by the community and would learn a lesson. On social media, like minded idiots embrace them and everyone else is scared to ridicule them for fear of offending someone.

The Internet should be limited to just porn and Wikipedia. When you start giving idiots a platform their ideas spread like the plague and you end up with the current situation. Go click on any random news article or YouTube video and look how absolutely stupid some of the people commenting are. Sometimes I wonder how most of the country even ties their shoes in the morning.
