On November 22nd, 1963 I was in my Spanish class in high school in The Sunshine State when the “intercom” came on and the shooting and killing of President Kennedy was announced to the students. We left our classrooms and wandered out like zombies. Everyone (almost) was physically sick from this shock. The first person I spoke with outside of the classroom was a friend and classmate of Italian ancestry and whose father may or may not have been in the youknowwhat. His words to me were: “We finally got the bastard.” Never will forget that high school moment. (Incidentally, I think LHO did it all by his lonesome.)

I was the opposite, won it when I was a Junior and got runner up as a Senior.

It's hard for me to think of anything non-football related. But here goes.
Junior year we had a big game where we were featured as one of the Game of the Week in our region. We had a giant pep-rally at 5 am. The news came so we were all on tv. We were all super excited and hyped, we talked so much smack on tv that morning we just knew we were going to win big. We proceeded to get our butts kicked 66-0. The game was absolutely miserable. It was rainy and cold as hell in the 20s. I'm a defensive lineman and I got trucked by their quarterback... After the game, I saw my older brother, who drove home 2 hours from college to see me play. His first words were, "yall fricking suck, that's the last time I go to one of your games. I missed out on head for this"
What made matters even worse was I saw the television segment where they showed our highlights from the game. Not only was the clip of me getting ran over on the highlights shown, but the anchors proceeded to bust out laughing at our fortune because of how much smack we talked before the game.

Another shitty day was senior prom. I spent half the time hanging with my bros having fun. The other half was spent arguing with my crazy ex. After prom we still argued. While driving her home still arguing, she slaps me in the face. So I called her a psycho crazy bitch. Somehow, we made up (or so I thought) and had sex when I dropper her off at home. I didn't make it home til 4 am, wayyy past my extremely generous 12:30 curfew (my parents were on the stricter side). I called myself sneaking in super quietly, and it was like a scene from a high school movie. My parents were literally sitting on the stairs waiting for me and they were PISSED. I got yelled at/lectured. I tried to cover myself with multiple lies but they saw through every single one. I had my car keys taken away, phone, video game, and was grounded for a month. To make matters worse. My girlfriend at the time, came to my house and talked to my mom. Telling her how mean I was to her at prom, and how I even called her a bitch. So my mom's anger towards me increased 100 fold. Luckily my dad was there to talk her down. He scolded me because he wanted me to be the bigger person still, but he was able to convince my mom that my girlfriend wasn't an innocent angel and to actually listen to my side of the story. My mom was still disappointed in me, but she calmed down and advised me to break up with her, because the relationship was not healthy for me. I was still on punishment, but she apologized for how she acted towards me, while also making me apologize to girlfriend.
My dumbass stayed with the girl another 1.5 years. I have no idea how or why I stayed with her for that long but looking back I truly regret it.

Rumor circulated that my “girlfriend” was giving a senior road-head which lead to him crashing his cool new car
In hindsight that’s pretty damn funny. Always wanted to try and get that confirmed.

My sophomore year a friend of mine was a senior, we went to a dude's party where he flipped his ATV on asphalt with no helmet on. Didn't know as much about traumatic injuries as I do now, but he was laying on his back and he had blood pooling in his mouth and the only thing I could think to do was roll him on his side to get it out, didn't know anything of c spine precautions at the time. Held him like that till my ride was getting ready to leave and jumped in the bed of the truck with my brother before the cops came. Walked into McDonald's in Covington with blood covering everything from fingers to elbows.
Some of yall say you dont remember shite about high school, I remember that...vividly. Oh and he made it just had some deficits secondary to TBI

For me it was graduation. My last two years of high school were a blast. I had a great job so I always had gas money, I had great grades, I had enough sense to know that life was never going to be that easy and fun again. College was fun as hell, but nowhere near as easy as high school.

Maybe not my worst day, but one of my worst moments.
I was on the academic team at a small rural school. At the time, Alabama did not classify academic teams by school size. So small 2A schools like ourselves had to compete with large 6A schools.
My junior year, we had a really good team. We swept through district play and went to regionals. We ended up in a weird three way tie and made state via coin toss.
State was the top four teams from each region. We qualified fourth in our region and were seeded against Central Tuscaloosa. Now the school is an inner city hellhole, but in 1992, this was one of the best schools in Alabama. A bunch of UA professor kids.
Anyway the state tournament was televised. We were at a studio in Montgomery. It was single elimination but the questions started falling out way. We ended up tied at the end of regulation and went to sudden death. Everyone was cheering for our podunk rural school against Central, who had won or be won the final for five straight years.
The sudden death question started like this. “this adjective, which describes a type of government ...”. A girl from Central buzzed in and said democracy. We pounced. The judges awarded the question to Central even though the question specifically asked for the adjective, “democratic”
I said “this is fricking bullshite” on statewide public TV. It wasn’t live but they just beeped it when it aired. My parents were so mad. The principal was mad. The superintendent was mad. My only saving grace was a teacher that came up to me and said you were right. it was bullshite.

At the end of my Sophomore year, I snuck out of school with some buddies to go 4-wheeling in my truck. Wound up sliding down a bank and denting up the passenger side. I had to go home to not only explain how I wrecked the truck, but why I wasn't in school in the first place. 35 years later...and I'd still love to go back and take back that one.

My dad was on an early flight from NOLA to DC
We didn’t know his flight info because he traveled so often it’s not like we’d inquired before he left
Couldnt run to the internet and look up what number his flight was.
My mom tried calling the airlines but phone lines were busy all morning.
So when the plane hit the pentagon, even though we knew it was incredibly unlikely that it was his plane, we didn’t know for sure until he was finally able to call the school a couple hours later
I can’t think of another day of high school that was as difficult.
ETA: or when we got knocked out of the football playoffs my senior year. That sucked too.

I snarted in civics class. Big sneeze led to a chair rattling fart. The entire class laughed including the teacher who just happened to be my baseball coach. He was sure to let the team know that afternoon.
Worst had to be freshman year, I get called up to varsity as a relief pitcher. We are playing our rivals and I get the nod in about the 5th inning. Packed house, get out on the mound and I'm warming up. Yeah I got ejected for throwing at a batter while I was still warming up. Never even got a pitch in, and was suspended for the next game.

Definitely the day I wrecked my car coming home from school. I had to either fetch rides or drive my mom's minivan for the rest of that semester. Got made fun of on the reg for that damn minivan. Rough times.

May 16 of my junior year.
I was called out of my 4th period computer science class and into the counselor's office so they could tell me that my dad had passed away.
Almost 20 years later and it's still both the most vivid and worst memory of my life.
