What was your moment where you were convinced there’s a god?

I know not everyone believes and I’m not trying to convert those who do not. I just wanted to share my own story. It seems as though every believer has their own personal moment when they knew without a doubt.
I thought I had moments in the past that qualified but this one takes the cake. Last night my toddler son was up all night long with 100 degree fever and throwing up 7 times. Poor man was miserable, sweating, and shivering. In addition, he couldn’t breathe due to being so stuffy in the head. He couldn’t sit still and cried for hours while my wife and I took turns holding him in bed.
Any parent reading this knows the helplessness and hurt one feels when their child is suffering. I had to fight back tears of my own over how bad he was feeling.
After about three hours of crying he sort of fell asleep but was snoring from all the congestion and he mixed in some crying whimpers every few seconds. As I laid there listening to him I said a prayer. Not a generic prayer that’s written in books and on pamphlets stored in purses. I’m talking about a real, heartfelt request to God. I asked him to relieve my son of his sickness and give it to me so that I could suffer instead. No catch, no “if/then” propositions — just a genuine request from a hurting dad.
No sooner than I finished my simple prayer, his snoring stopped and I heard his breaths go in and out of his nose freely, he settled down, stopped crying, and his breathing got into a rhythm and he fell asleep. I immediately smiled and tears filled my eyes. It was the first time in my life I said a prayer that was answered right away. He woke up a couple hours later without a fever and with more energy than ever before.
Now I lay in bed tonight not feeling good at all and it looks like I’m coming down with something. I just had to share with everyone since I know there are some here who will appreciate my story.

You are going to get shite on for the thread, but my moment happened at 17.
So I understand where you are coming from. I still have issues with the Christian Church, but I have no doubt God exists.
Don’t worry about the haters.
God Bless

God needs someone to be sick tonight. If it isn’t your son, it’s gotta be you. Sucks but that’s the rules.

Honestly, I was in rehab. It’s a long story, but There was a moment where there were just so many coincidences coincidentally happening at the same time to actually be a coincidence in my mind. I think about that moment daily, though I’m not really super open about it on a daily basis. Only in cases where I know it can be useful and not conflict with anyone else’s beliefs offensively.

So you're a reverend but weren't fully convinced there was a God until your kid quit snoring?

You know that this is one of the main reasons any religion spreads...
People do X and Y happens, they attribute Y to X.

When I was in my late teens, I was suicidal during a major bout of depression. I had decided to end it while I was walking back to my dorm from class. I felt invisible and alone. All of a sudden, I hear a man singing "hallelujah" randomly, and I look up to see a man sitting on the bed of his pickup. He looks me square in the eye, and said, "how you doing, bud?"
If only for a moment, I thought someone cared. I decided to find healthier ways of dealing with my depression, and came out of it OK. But that moment has stuck with me since.

To question the existence of a god is human. We’re not perfect and have all been taught to question authority, to be skeptical. For me personally it’s about having faith more than anything. Faith that there is something greater, something bigger than man. Something else.
There have been multiple moments throughout my life that made me believe. I don’t know what moments the future holds so I can’t say that this particular moment is the end all be all moment for ME, but up to this point, that was the most convincing. In that moment, my son needed relief and he got it.

I was 13. I spoke to God and I felt his presence. I just knew. There are more details but I’ll keep that part private.

This sounds pretty simplistic and stupid, but my dad used to take me fishing as a kid. He knew I couldn’t handle a full day so we would just go until around lunchtime.
One day we didn’t get a bite, and he says, “well, you ready to put it on the trailer?” I said to hold on for one second. I said the most heartfelt prayer a kid who believed in nothing else could say then cast my little crankbait to the middle of the lake and caught a bass on that cast.
Again, it sounds silly, but I’ll never forget the magic in that moment.

Was pretty young, about 9, 10 years old. Little brother was diagnosed with and died from leukemia and questions abounded. As the years passed there were periods of growth and distance. Now, at 62, I am able to see enough life events to be convinced. There was never a "moment", more of a marathon

"The general root of superstition: namely, that men observe when things hit, and not when they miss; and commit to memory the one, and forget and pass over the other".
Stop being retarded. There are thousands of kids in America with cancer.

one day in my high school chapel i was praying about wether or not i should go to seminary.
i was kind of discouraged by all of the stuff happening in the church and beginning to doubt things
long story short in that chapel i got my answer and it was the most realistic experience of the divine I ever encountered. ever since then I haven’t looked back

Mine wasn't until my mid-20's, but I have felt his presence many times in my life. Usually after moments when I am facing a crossroads of sorts.

Man that’s fantastic and thanks for sharing.
God’s timing is always perfect and life sure is fun and the gratitude runs deep, when our timeline matches up with His.
