T.J.'s, Bruno's, Tuck's(when on Carrollton) were our usuals most days. Sometimes Rendon Inn for $10 Drink till you drown.

Would sometimes hit up Shanahan's(across the street from Ursuline on Claiborne)after school and drink in our uniforms

I grew up in the Lower 9th and was a teen by the mid 60's. My go to places close to the house were Cusimano's and Chink's. Cusimano's was on St. Claude right off Flood St. across the street diagonally from Puglia's Sporting Goods and Chink's was near Chartres St. about a block off Caffin Ave.

Both were pretty much hole in the wall bars with pool tables, cheap beer and their regular bar flies that almost lived in those places. I don't think I ever saw a cop come in either place all the years I hung out in them.

Had to love those .35 fish bowls of draft beer.

No it wasn’t. It changed from 18 to 21 in the early 80’s to conform with most other states because the federal government threatened to withhold transportation funds if the state didn’t comply.

LA enacted 21 to buy alcohol in ‘87, but a loophole let you consume alcohol at 18 until ‘95. Then in ‘96 there was short bit where the courts ruled the law unconstitutional and 18yr olds could drink again, but that didn’t last long.

Hey, don't make me older than I already am. Pushing 66 this November.

And as far as this site, it is heavy La. based and I've been an almost lifelong resident with the exception of living in Jackson, MS for 3 years from 70-73, so I can relate to most of what is posted.

Well, except for the "Baw" shite and truck nuts.

Don't you know it. That is why I still like to head over to Liuzza's on Bienville St. in N.O.

They still serve their draft beer in those heavy fishbowl mugs that come straight out the freezer. Absolutely decadent.

Tabbys or whatever it was called downtown circa 2001-2003. Seem to remember them having a barrel full of jungle juice or something we could get hammered on underage

This. I'm not sure where the other guy got his information. It was the same with seat belt laws. Lots of loopholes when they first came out.

When I was in high school we would just go to the drive through daiquiri shops in Chalmette and loaded up. We would either go to a friends, the lake, or the quarter. If we went to the quarter there was a little to go place next to old absinthe house that would sell us hurricanes and whatnot.

TJs in uptown NO was my go to from 18 and up. I lived there when home for the summer/random weekends. Would also hit up a few other uptown bars but that was home base.

Same, but 2002-2004. Tucks was my main one. Walking around with a $5 pitcher of crown and coke with a straw in it on a Tuesday.
