that was owned by Travis...he had a full service station with girls in hot pants waiting on cars...this was in the 70's...

Lived next door to that location from '97 to '99. 132 E. State St.
In fact, Todd Graves along with his business partner lived in the same "complex" while renovating the property and launching the business. He lived in small studio apartment in back. We shared a leaky wall.
The place was a rat hole but rent was $230.00 a month and was close as hell to North Gates.
Cane 1 used to crap on the roof on his walks.
Todd was (is) a nice guy from what I knew of him and was always happy for his success.

That is what is was at least from 1984-1988.
You sat at a booth and ordered from an intercom system without ever going to a counter. The burgers and roast beef po-boys were the real deal IIRC.

Canes was never round the corner. It was a repair shop immediately before becoming canes.

It was a Texaco when Crowe Peele owned it. Shell was my bad memory.
One of my roommates at LSU worked there.(guy) LSU had a great defensive tackle named Lenny Marshall that would buy gas there on a credit card. One of Crowe Peele's policies was that students had to provide a phone number if using a credit card. LM would always say he didn't remember his number because he didn't call himself that often.

There is a website that has a lot of old BR pictures, including the LSU area going back to the 1930's and before. I used to have the URL but can't find it anywhere, and nothing comes up on google with the search terms I've used.

Are you talking about the small wooden apartment building that was in the back where canes is now.
I helped with the Demo of the building in the mid 80's I guess. I found a box of a bunch of photographs, original CC Lockwood's I believe. Among other things I took from there.
