1991 Dodge Spirit R/T. A neighbor had the regular Spirit up until the Hurricane.
I didn't know they were that fast..
quote:
Sold in 1991 and 1992, the Spirit R/T had a quarter-mile time of 14.5 seconds at 97 mph and a top speed of 141 mph, making it the quickest four-door sedan sold in the United States (the fastest mass-produced four-door sedan in the world. Two cars sold only in Europe might have been faster: the handmade BMW E34 M5 and Alpina B10, selling for the equivalent of $59,905 and $109,500, respectively. Thanks, Stephen, for details on the competition.) All this came at a base price of $17,820, including power windows and air conditioning.

Modern stock full size pick up trucks run faster than this...

Ultimate sleeper.
My old next door neighbor was Mark Salsbury before he passed away. He'd let me drive al lthe cool new cars he got on the lot back in the day.
That car had a Lotur engineered motor and suspension and a Getrag 5 speed and racing clutch and larger cv axles.
It would flat out scoot back in the day.
BTW
I see we have all the gear heads up in this thread.

The only 80s American made cars I would nominate are
Mustang 5.0
IROC Z
Grand National
Cars sucked in the 80s
I had a 81 Z28 that I wish I had today

Overall I agree with you. I don't understand this boards obsession with the 80s. Personally, I think the decade was fairly lackluster compared to others.
