have several of the Allen Edmonds brand ones, but the last time I bought a pair of shoes I went cheap and got the trees they sell at Target. They are cedar, but not split like the ones pictured.

The only pair of shoes I bought there, the saleslady gave me the hard sell on the cedar trees. I agreed to get them and when ringing me up for the shoes, she didn't charge me for the trees.

I just assumed it was her way of throwing in lagniappe for the deal of buying the most expensive shoes I've ever purchased by a long shot. You think I should have said something about it, though?

I have some from Dillard's but they do not last long at all. The AE shoe trees have lasted longer.

Let me just run down to the local haberdashery to see what kind of shoe trees they have.

This is the second thread in a row I've opened up and have no idea what the hell the OP is talking about. Is it just me?

Yeah, that's not what a shoe tree does. Keeps them from creasing badly and losing their shape. Also, great for travelling or even just going to the gym before work. Put them in and put your shoes in a shoe bag and you don't have to worry about them getting destroyed in your luggage or duffle bag.

Regarding the original post, this second photo isn't a set of shoe trees, but rather a last, I would surmise for a client with the name "J. Fitzpatrick" used as form to make a pair of bespoke shoes.

It's a set of bespoke shoe trees. You can get them on shoes such as Edward Green if you wanted to spend the extra money over a shoe tree shown in the first picture. Probably overkill but if you're already spending $1000+ on shoes then why not get them.
