Take the tv out your living room and turn that into formal living room with a piano and turn the dining room to a den with the tv.

The piano is in the den.

TV is in the living room and there’s nothing but a bar, wine cooler, china cabinet and “dining room” table in the “dining room”

The dining room was directly connected to the the kitchen. We turned it into a keeping room with couch and nice chairs.

That let us make the parlor into the formal dining room after I had a chandelier installed.

Works just fine.

Is this a subtle "I have too many rooms" brag thread?

Nah, that thread title is "what to use a formal sitting room for?"

Perhaps a room to brush up on your grammar?

We usually eat in an area next to the kitchen that's big enough for a full size table so this room goes unused

Oh okay. Not a "formal dining room" kind of guy.

How about a Dale Earnhardt shrine room? You could have a few NASCAR magazines laying around. Call it the BurningHeart Earnhardt Memorial Library.

What age range are your kids if any? Consider the fact that one day you may have married kids and grandkids and need the dining space.

If kids are near teenage years, it could be a kid sitting room for them. If you have young kids and this room is "in sight" I personally would not do a play room due to they're never "picked up".

Butlers pantry?
You mean my “In-Box”, the place for electronics to charge with special plates to empty my pockets into?

We use ours for dining, but that’s only because our slave’s quarters are connected to it and we’re nice owners not making her walk very far.

My wife uses ours to layout quilts, in 5 years we have dined in it 3 times. But the House came with it.

It’s because they sell by the sq ft..

Wine grotto and cigar lounge if you are high class. Place some elegant looking souvenirs in there for bragging to your guests about where you've been.

Billiard/bar may be an awesome idea.

Kids play room may work.

Proud of the OT coming up with 2 solid responses on the first page.

I like when the sarcasm is laid on really thick... As if you couldn't think of those two on your own without starting a thread.
