• His crime, trial, and failed appeals for clemency.
I was wondering if it was a black or white guy from the use of “thug” in the thread title. Then I read the above, and it was confirmed it was a black guy. Cause we all know only blacks were hanged in the history of the world.

HANGED BY THE NECK” from the Marion-Ledger, Tuesday Evening, March 8, 1892

Marion, Ohio, March 8. — F. L. Wood, who murdered his wife on the evening of July 24, 1891, paid the penalty of his crime by hanging this morning at 10:43 o’clock.
Dude murdered his wife the summer of ‘91 and was swinging before the next Spring. We use to have a functioning judicial system.

I recently listened to a podcast about Carl Panzram and one about Earl "The Gorilla Man" Nelson. Both were born in the late 1800s and both did lots and lots of raping, strangling, various methods of murdering, and just general mayhem.

I thought society has gotten worse than it's ever been

I fixed it. Sorry. Much easier to read now.
Much better writing, certainly more colorful, than what you see in media today.

"Would fight a circular saw" is a pretty good turn of phrase.

Interesting story!
"But as the curtain has fallen; let the circumstances of his misspent life and the disgrace of his taking serve as a warning to those following the path hetrod."
Don't see writing like that any longer. Don't know what hetrod means.

Go read newspapers from a hundred or more years ago. The writing will impress you, even in the smaller town newspapers.

Thought the same thing too
