All the money generated from gambling was suppose to go towards education..
It did/does. They immediately slashed education dollars that were coming from the general fund to offset. In effect, they pumped those lottery dollars right into a place where they could get their hands on it.
They never said that the money was going to go to education in addition to what was already being spent.
Never underestimate the ability of a lawmaker to get over on the public.

Yeah, but that's no reason to not making it available for those who would like to consume it.

so I don't understand why the NLA politicians are against this.
All those N LA politicians from New Orleans and franklin, etc.

I gaurantee you that had the governor gotten the casino he wanted in Tangi, that sports betting magically would have happened and been approved for it.

I don't claim to know enough about politics to argue about it... But with the level of gambling we have allowed thus far, what would sports betting hurt?
I do agree with another poster, our corrupt government officials and casino's would be the biggest benefactors. Our state education, roads, etc. would not benefit anymore than it has so far!
Remember.... state Lottery was a big deal years ago, money was supposed to solve our education short fall. Just a bunch of elected crooks!

Casinos weren’t placed in Shreveport and Lake Charles for Louisiana residents. It was for Dallas and Houston visitors.
This may have been the goal, cruise through the parking areas on a busy night, the license plates are a 100 to 1 Louisiana, and there are not that many people coming from Texas by charter services.

The okie casino is about hour from DFW vs 3 for Shreveport.

I live in St Tammany. I also own a house in Mandeville. He just lost my vote.
I vote for people who believe in Freedom. This guy doesn't.

Personally I'm shocked that Louisiana is lagging behind.
I'm sure we'll be the 50th state to legalize recreational marijuana long after the growth is over and we won't get shite from it.
Louisiana.
Always the first to be last.
Can't even count on Mississippi anymore.

The casinos are already full of people dropping their paycheck instead of supporting their family, why give them another method to lose money they cant afford to lose.

Score another win for the Bookie lobby.

Louisiana is not behind on this. You need to understand how things work here. The politicians need to set up the fix and place their people into position to get the take. THEN it will pass and the cronies will reap and then “contribute “ to the politicians. No rush for the payoff !

Get ahead of sports betting and legalize marijuana and LA becomes solvent real quick. Think 20 yrs in the future - you REALLY don’t see weed being legal just about everywhere? Get ahead of it - damn!

would be interested to see what would happen if Texas ushered in casinos. We see a lot of money funnel to LA and OK
Yeah Texas should legalize it too. I don’t think it’s anywhere close to doing so. Marijuana neither.

I'm indifferent to it. If they legalize it fine, if not, won't bother me. It won't be a windfall for the state, and any revenue it does bring in will just be pissed away. A lot of degenerate gamblers getting all worked up over it in this thread.

NW LA was in on gambling as soon or sooner than anyone. Racetrack, casinos...

This is fricking retarded. If you don't want to gamble, simply abstain from doing it.
It's not like it's costing YOU any more money if you don't indulge. In fact, it's helping you by increasing state revenue.
Besides the fact, why not just let the people vote on it instead of just assuming they don't want it?

Shreveport's very existence has always been based on taking Texans' money. As the head of navigation on Red River, it was where East Texas took its cotton and cattle to sell, and was later the hub for the early 20th century Northeast Texas oil and gas boom. There's a reason Shreveport looks toward Texas. It's where the money is.
