I’m buying some property near Baton Rouge with an old double wide being left on it at no value. It had a few inches of water in it during the 2016 flood and is gutted. Part of me wants to burn it to the ground and the other wants to spend a little money to fix it up and live in it without a mortgage for a few years until I build a house. It’s a 1993 model, 28x64 I believe. If I do some of the repairs myself I’ll be below $30k but that seems like too much to spend on a 25 yr old trailer. Thoughts?

ETA: I’m not spending a penny on it. Was going to rent it out if I did but still not worth it. Thanks for the responses. If someone wants a decent hunting camp for cheap let me know. Otherwise it’ll probably be going up in flames in a couple weeks.

You could get a new one for that I would think.

Ask yourself what kind of resale value would you get after dropping $30K on a 25yo trailer

My moonshine supplier in Georgia had a trailer behind his place they used as a target... thing was riddled with bullet holes. I recommend that.

Bout tree fiddy.

If you burn it, let the local FD do it; they can do training with it. Otherwise, try advertising it for free as-is, person wanting it assumes all cost for removal. Somebody can use it for a meth lab.

Can but not this size. New are $60k+ I think. Singles are $40-$50 but I have 2 kids and a wife so more space sounds better. Leaning toward giving it away or burning it but wanted opinions.

Good God just burn it to the ground.

Voluntarily living in a double wide with 2 kids and a wife? Yeesh. The divorce would end up being more costly than fixing up the trailer.

if trailer was on a property you could continue to rent it, then maybe, but trailer on property you building, no go.

You could get one used for $30 and in way better shape. Advertise it free if someone moves it themselves.

Damn it's a 93? I thought you might have had a 94 model and then fixing it up would be a no brainer.

I personally would just give it away. Dumping 30k into something you don't plan on keeping seems like a waste of money.
