I wonder if Southeastern has anything?

Things might have changed, I really have no idea, but I think SLU use to have a program that was a mix between construction management and process operator.

You don't really need a degree, when plants hire operators, they are looking for long term hires so if you are over qualified it will be more difficult to get a job. If you have a construction management degree, for example, that could give you the opportunity to take a job that will eventually pay more than what you would max out as a plant operator. Or.. Make more, without having to work 60+ hrs a week.

know a 28 year old that just got on with Exxon in BR.

"Operator"

GED, and was a fireman for a few years.

No, he has no family connections with Exxon.

Three of these four are not true.

What else could I do with it then in the plants to make around 100K a year?

Nothing entry level other than an engineer. But it's possible to reach that mark in procurement, training, or safety after 5 or so years with continuous advancement and a decent bonus percentage.

They are not even three yet so they have not been on dirtbikes yet. Once we adopt them and they learn how to ride their bicycles they will get on the dirtbikes.

Associates will do in process technology. Or u can start with a small company and build a resume but to jump right in the game you will need a P-Tech more than likely, without experience.

with the announcement of the Formosa Plant in ST.James Parish ,great time to make the switch.
Instrument/Analyzer/Electrical/Millwright all work 4-10's here with lots of opts for OT. most all make over 100k easily. those skills are hard to find right now

Are there college courses I could take to learn different operating systems and valves etc that an operator job would need to know?

Find a relative that works in a plant. Nepotism 101 if you want to go the college route.
