What schooling do you have to have to get one of these operator jobs? I am guessing a college degree? What else would be needed?
I have a BA degree so I am wondering what I could do int the plants with this level of education?
I am a teacher and of course I dont make a lot of money.I really love my job and I am at a great school but, my wife and I are fostering to adopt three children and my wife, who is also a teacher, would love to stay home and raise the kids. I work part time with a welding shop I worked at in college, programming their controlled automation machines so I was wondering what kind of operator job I could possibly get and would any of my prior knowledge even help me out?
Are there college courses I could take to learn different operating systems and valves etc that an operator job would need to know?

operator life is not for you baw. Operators are required by law to spend their cash on trash like trucks, and boats, nd ATVs, not children and a wife

Sign up for night classes at the School of Hard Knocks.
Only prerequisite is a thorough knuckle check. Also will have some electives in signing hot work permits.

Well my family and I race dirtbikes so I already spend my teacher salary on trucks, campers and I just bought a 2018 dirtbike so lol by your definition I already do that. Our oldest two both have their own PW50's :)

Did you learn powerstroke performance specs with that BA? What about the correct hair follicle detail on a rubber nutsack? If not, then you're woefully underqualified.

PTECH degree for operator, sounds like you would like instrumentation better, most community colleges in S. La and Tx have programs for both.

Plant operators get the OT really going. I love it.

Get a job in a big fab shop doing automation/training since you can teach

How much would a job like this pay? I really enjoy teaching and working with young adults.

Nope, but could be a plus.

Keep in mind...with a plant job you may end up working shifts. Most plants now are 12 hr shift....3 on 2 off / 2 on 3 off / EOWO

Plants I'm familiar with ... you start out at entry level and work your way up..doesn't matter what previous job you've had.

I'm going to "second" the poster above. If you are currently doing programming are better suited for the Instrumentation / Controls and Automation side of it.
It's a great skill to have and you can take your skills anywhere. There is a book you can download that's free called "Lessons in Industrial Instrumentation" by Tony Krupholdtmthat will give you a great background on the work.
Be warned, even though it's a technician level text it's still around 1400 pages long. If you're interested in doing it for a living it should b easy to find courses in the area.

If you are trying to adopt 3 kids and have a wife then the plant life is not for you. I would love to know the percent of divorced operators paying child support. I'm an operator and almost everyone I work with has been married/divorced at least once.

I stand corrected, you baw, are indeed worthy of an operator job

Do you think this bc they married to young or can’t handle the home/work transition.
