My Dad was a Beaumont cop in the 60's. They were ordered by the govenor....or his cronies.... to pull over cars with La. Plates after LsU AtM game in College Station one year. The beaumont cops refused but the Texas state troopers capitulated. This was all in retaliation to the La. Troopers writing up Texas people the year before when the game was in BR and Tam won.

There are still several out of the way places with what some would term "racist" names.

They aren't on many of the newer maps, but if you look on the older maps, you'll find such gems as:

"****** island"
"Free ****** point"
"****** bayou"
"****** bend"

Now, you have to remember these were named at a time where these words were more of a descriptor than anything inflammatory, but they exist to this day.

The one of the largest slaveowners in Louisiana at the time of the civil war was a black woman.

Before the civil war Natchez had more millionaires than any city in America.

Not per capita -- more millionaires, period.

Harrisonburg was considered for the new site of the Louisiana state capital when the legislature decided to move it from New Orleans after the Civil War.

That was mine. I think it missed by one vote.

The largest indian mound in Louisiana and maybe the United States was located in Jonesville, LA.

It's dirt was completely used for highway construction about 100 years ago.

I say move it back to Donaldsonville -- never too late

And Pineville would take care of LSU's crime problem being OOC

There were a lot of blacks w/ slaves down here. It was oddly normal.

The US held Nazi POWs in Ruston during WWII. As if being a POW wasn't punishment enough.
