The old Mississippi River bridge was built lower so it was the farthest north a barge could go to offload.

His next show was in Dallas, and supposedly he spent the trip to Shreveport worried none of the Mom and Pop stores on the highway would let him eat or use the bathroom

The first US Army soldier killed in the European theater was a Ranger from Louisiana, in the Dieppe raid.

The largest indian mound in Louisiana and maybe the United States was located in Jonesville, LA. It's dirt was completely used for highway construction about 100 years ago.

The 64 parishes of Louisiana were mapped out so the parish seat was no more than a day's horse drawn buggy ride away, from the farthest point.

Louisiana's Lt Governor during the Civil War was a Jew. His cousin was Secretary of State for the Confederacy.

Are you talking about Judah Benjamin? According to Wiki he was a US Senator, but not Lt Gov

JB is sometimes credited with the classic line (after a political opponent called him a "dirty Jew"): "Yes, I am a Jew, and while the good gentleman's ancestors lived in caves on an obscure island, mine were priests in the temples of Solomon".

But I've also seen Disraeli credited with it.

German U-Boats off the mouth of Bayou Lafourche in WWII. The residents off the coast could hear the sailors on the boats talking in German over the shortwave.

The Rolling Stones opened their 1975 tour in the Assembly Center.

I'm pretty sure the logic was knocking the rust off - because who cares if you suck it up in Baton Rouge.

1951, Army troop train crashes head-on into a freight train near Lettsworth. 8 killed, 65 injured. My dad, who was a a recently discharged Ranger at the time, said it was the worst thing he'd ever seen.
