You're problem is that you are treating dating like a game and women as opponents. But that's because you are messing with the wrong "women". If you act like an adult and treat people with respect, you will attract other adults who treat you with respect. Good women, if you know how to pick them, won't treat dating like a game.

Look at all the sad friend zoned betas out there who invest all sorts of money and time and gifts and such into a woman and get no sex in return. Women absolutely use men to extract resources.
When you dont pay for a woman it is conveying to the woman you have options. And you don't give a shite if she has a problem with you not paying for her. Generally this will make her more attracted. Because she is used to most guys paying for her and investing in her and bending over backwards for her. By not paying that makes you different, and confident. Confident because she sees that you don't care if she walks away. Will only make her more intrigued and attracted. Therefore she will work harder for your attention.

SO and I will get two meals and split them, so we can each try 2 different things without wasting food
Edit: I had to convince my SO to do this too. I really like trying multiple entrees at any decent restaurant I go to. Having her with me gives me that option without having to order a ton of extra food
