The fatbody, jr's in my hood ride the battery powered motorcycles while staring at their phones.

I had a Vertigo with Mags and a Three Piece Crank. I was moving like 4 yards a day to save up the money for the bike and upgrades.

My nephew gave me the "whatcha talkin about old man?!" look the other day when I told him he should ask for a Mongoose for Xmas. Ha!!

Just glad they call them BMX bikes still, so I can try to play it off.

BTW - how are DiamondBacks nowadays??

I had a Diamond Back Viper like this, then a Kuwahara.

Not sure what the good brands are now. I know Mongoose is a Walmart brand.

I was a Mongoose kid back in the 80s, but they do not seem the same now.

Actually they are the same but they sell their lower end in Wal-mart now. The "upper" end Mongoose are fine which would be about a mid-level Cannondale or GT. You just wouldn't see too many riding them because of the association with Wal-mart now. Cannondale, GT, Mongoose, Dyno, Schwinn are all under the same company. It's the components that mainly differ.

I had a Dyno Nitro then a GT Power Series 1.0 back in my BMX days.

Dyno Air for freestyle stuff.

No idea is these are still around or any good but I loved them back then.

ETA: Adding pics of each because I'm feeling nostalgic. Mine were exactly like these:

I had a Hutch as a kid in the 80s and raced BMX with it. No clue if they are any good now though however.

Last year I got my kid an entry level Haro Shredder 16 inch for around $200.

As someone else said, stay away from Walmart bikes. They weigh 300 lbs and are junk.

They are all kind of crappy now but mongoose has been sold in Walmart’s for like a decade by now. They all got bought out by the Walmart brands, they are only a step above next and huffy

Biggest waste of money among my long history of money-wasting purchases was a BMX bike I bought for my oldest son back when he was around 11. Bought a Free Agent frame and had a friend who painted cars do a candy red paint job on it. Tricked it out with carbon fiber forks, carbon fiber handle bars, etc. It only weighed around 16 lbs. Dumped around $1,200 into it and he used it maybe 5 times. Wouldn’t let him use it for street riding since it was a racing bike, so it ended up in my attic, where it still sits 15 years later. We tried to do the real BMX thing, and BREC had an awesome track, but hardly anyone showed up for the races. Wasn’t worth the drive.

I got both my kids the mongoose carbon fiber over the road racing bike in their sizes. They’re 6 and 10. They’re excited to train and be just like their dad and lance armstrong! Look for us on river road

I know this my sound idiotic but do kids even ride bikes anymore?

I know some do, you just dont see many kids riding bikes in neighborhoods anymore.

I lived on my bike as a kid.

Dyno VFR the GOAT.

Buddy of mine had a chrome ELF and that thing was sick.

Yeah, GT is a good bike. Paid $1200 for my hardtail at a real bike store. Has great features and great components.

My son bike is a Specialized. He loves it. Had it for 4 years now.

Not as much as we did to get around but I see many riding bikes to school in my neighborhood and on the green trails.

Parents are overprotective now. I would ride my bike about anywhere. Now, parents won't let kids cross a street.
