Venetian Isles is not close to the 9th Ward. It's about as far east of the 9th, as Kenner is west of the 9th Ward.
Um, Venetian Isles is in the 9th Ward.

The entire area along 90 between basically I-10 curve and Chef Pass is pretty sketchy

A quick google search provided these results.

I grew up in Venetian Isles so I can speak with some level of authority. While technically it is in the 9th Ward, it is far from the “heart” of it. It’s about 10 miles down Chef past Michoud (Village De L’Est) and butts up against the Chef Pass. The next area is Lake Catherine which was basically ground zero for Katrina which runs the rest of Chef Hwy out to the Rigolets and Fort Pike. It is within Orleans Parish. It has its own NOFD Station.
Prior to Katrina, it was a beautiful neighborhood where most everyone knew everyone else in the neighborhood. Home to the annual Venetian Isles Fishing Rodeo. Since Katrina, many homes were torn down, some were raised, and some withstood the 20’+ surge. My mom’s house was 12.5’ abound sea level and took 7.5’ inside the house. Crime was usually minimal (Dad didn’t lock his truck at night).
My family still has one home out there, but treat it more like a camp now. Almost any southerly wind pushes water into the streets and any storm coming close results in the levee gates being closed due to water flowing around the MRGO protection wall. It’s still a great area to fish but haven’t been able to hunt for 30+ years as it’s now inside the Bayou Sauvage Wildlife Refuge.

Why do you care about this? Are you planning to visit. Maybe OWL can meet you there for your beatdown?
The nearest Sonic is in Chalmette - I think that’s perfect

Chef Menteur sold a bunch of econo-shitboxes for Banner Chevrolet in the late 1980s.
Chef Menteur means “Lying Chief,” so it makes sense that a smarmy car salesman would take up the moniker.

I stand corrected. You're right and I'm wrong. I would have never thought that Venetian Isles was part of the 9th Ward. The more you know...
However, I believe when the majority of New Orleanians refer to the Upper 9th and Lower 9th ward, the Industrial Canal is the dividing line. I also believe most think the 9th ward ends where Arabi begins. Thanks for the clarification.

Those homes were OG built in the late 60s, 70s and early 80s. My childhood home was built on slab grade at +12.5’ in ‘79. My uncle’s house was circa 2000 and on stilts and did not get water in Katrina.

I mean. That has nothing to do with why that guys name was that.

None of this happened but all of New Orleans East is part of the 9th ward but not the lower 9th (that you’re trying to reference like you know anything)where the Florida and Desire projects used to be.
Venetian Isles is a bunch of good people who live in mostly nice houses with easy access to great fishing.

OWL is going to beat Chris’ arse. Hopefully you can record the beat down.
