The high sales tax?
The high crime?
The terrible and underperforming public schools?
The mediocre but expensive private schools?
The misallocation of funds by local and state government?
The lack of economic opportunity due to the state's reliance on one industry (awl) and that it would stay strong forever?
The low wages justified by 'cheap' cost of living?
The supposedly 'cheap' real-estate that's still more expensive that states like; TN, TX, NC, GA, AR, MS, IA, NE, IN, OH, and others?

ETA: I almost forgot to mention the litter, plant smells, and dead dogs busted open on the sides of the roads.
For those that got out, why'd you leave?

Business I own. If I could sell out for a good price I would and move to Diamondhead MS or Northern Arizona.

Bingo.

Mine won't leave as she is very close to her family, which is great ... but I often think she doesn't realize exactly what other opportunities are truly out there either besides good folks, food and cul'cha.

We want to be near family and friends. It's that simple.
Thankfully I have a good paying job and can afford good private schools.

Saints and LSU football and the good stuff that Nola has to offer helps the situation

Nothing besides I don't have a job in another city.

Give me a decent job in Houston and I'll be gone by tomorrow morning.

Family is pretty much the only thing that keeps us here. My entire family minus one sibling is still in the area. It's nice for my girls to grow up close to their grandparents. We'll probably stay until they are done with school unless my or the wife's employment situation changes. After that I'm headed for the mountains and cooler weather.

I love where I'm from, but the best thing I ever did was to get out years ago. There is not a single spot in Louisiana that is better than my current home in Williamson County TN.

I have a pretty great quality of life here in Louisiana. Good job, friends, family, network, schools, neighborhood, etc.

I know it isn't like that for everyone so I don't really blame those people for wanting to leave.
