re: What is your favorite science fiction book

Has anyone mentioned starship troopers? It's not like the movie and is on the commandants reading list.

I think you mean "A Princess of Mars", which is an awesome book, and a MUCH better title than the damned Disney "John Carter" bullshite.

I've read a lot of the books already mentioned here and I'll add my vote to Ready Plater One. It's one of my favorite books of any genre.

I'll also tip my hat to Enders Game.

Anything by Ray Bradbury is awesome.

Stranger in a Strange Land is probably Heinlein's best, but still wanting in some ways. I hate how all of his books end. He'll have this great story going along, and then it's like he gets tired of writing, or he hits a deadline, and BOOM, he ends the thing in three pages.

The Cat Who Walks Through Walls and Friday by him did this as well.

Startide Rising is a good read from the Uplift Series.

I'd enjoy that. My favourite Manga series was Battle Angel Alita. There was talk of James Cameron turning it into a movie but he's side tracked on Avatar sequels first.
