Same. I can see her now, carefully picking through that crab meat. You weren't gonna find a hint of shell in that gumbo. Because I told her if so she was gonna start completely over.

Naw, she took a lot of pride in it for sure and it showed.

Dressing
Chicken and dumplings
Peach cobbler

My mom cooks circles around her though. Basically took everything she taught her and made it better

two many to list: chicken/sausage gumbo, Okra gumbo, corn soup, meatball stew. The food was top notch but the conversations i used to have with her were even better. I miss my little cajun grandma

Pretty weird but Only grandmother I knew is 95 and I never tasted a meal she cooked. My mom was the cook as I grew up, my grandmother had cooks/gardners/maids for her

My mom made a killer daube!

But MawMaw made a sublime crawfish bisque and I always helped her stuff the boulettes.

Fried chicken with mashed potatoes and white gravy. And loved when she had fresh green beans from the garden to go with it.

When I was younger - back in the 70’s - I’d watch my Grandmother kill a chicken by wringing It’s neck. She’d clean it and try it in a cast iron skillet until it’s crispy. And then would make rice and gravy and all. Best chicken ever ate. Hands down. Fresh chicken like that has a total different taste then store brought. Nothing compares.
