What kind of business and what kind of people are you recruiting?

I work as a recruiter for a business, I call people to set up interviews.
I usually have 6 to 8 people set up for any given day that we hold these interviews. Most of these people are currently unemployed but some are currently working. I would say most of them seem excited about the interviews when we set them up.
But come interview day, only 1 or 2 show up. One may cancel but the rest will completely ghost me. No answers to text or phone calls.
Is it too much to ask someone to be professional and let me know that they will not be making their schedule interview?

I've had to fill a couple of student worker positions over the last year, these are college kids looking for work. About 1/2 simply never show up for their interviews.

Just shoot a text or something as opposed to completely ghosting. It’s not ultra professional but at least we can then move on interview wise.

This. And companies treat employees like shite. The hell with loyalty or even common courtesy when dealing with them. They will give you neither.

It's awful. I had to replace a controller. I can honestly say 1/2 the people who were called in for interviews showed up.

We even called one who didn;t show up and she said she had a death in the family and we re-scheduled. She didn't show up a second time.

This upcoming generation of 20 year olds simply does not want to work.

They can’t get out of bed or dress themselves. They’d rather play on their phones all day posting a neat-o Instagram photo.

to collect unemployment they have to act like they are looking for a job, hence why you see people applying but then never hearing from them again

all the unemployed person has to do is show hey I set up an interview with xx company, it didn't work out, give me my money the 1st and 15th plz

For insurance companies. Some of these people applied on job sites and some are cold calls from resumes we get supplied to us.
I ask if they are currently working and/or looking for a new opportunity.
A few times, when I felt one of these ghost were just using me for unemployment, I've texted them that i need the reason for why they missed the interview for paperwork for the La. Unemployment Benefits Department. Nine out of 10 times they text me back with some excuse.

The very important question that you're not answering is:

What type business and positions are you recruiting and setting up interviews for? Amway? Cutco? Electrolux? Or legitimate interviews for a real company rather than a come-on/set-up claiming the "potential" to be in management?

The question has been asked by multiple responders to your OP and you haven't answered. There's a shite-load of difference in that part alone. Maybe you should consider another line of employment as well.

ETA:
I see the response and answer now. . . Insurance.

Trust me on this one. Anyone who has been looking for real employment with a guaranteed wage/income has learned that most offers of employment from insurance companies/agents turn out to be a form of a pyramid scheme. You may want to seriously consider recruiting for a different type of employer. Maybe headhunting for construction PMs and superintendents, or something along those lines.

I have been recruiting for my company for the last 18 months. People are assholes. I knew that already, but this has just reinforced my opinion

Hiring service recruiters ghost a lot too. Maybe people think it’s common etiquette to do nowadays but it’s a shitty practice.

Currently unemployed and have shown up to every interview I scheduled. Even the ones that I didn't want I at least let them know I was no longer interested.

On the flip side, why can recruiters never get back to the people that interviewed? Had multiple experiences where I've gone through the interview process only to be ghosted by recruiters. At least tell me no so I can move on. Any communication is appreciated, a lack of communication makes me not want to work for said conpany

I see what you're saying, but I'm upfront with them in letting them know what the job is and that its a commission job.

This is an issue as well…. There are some people who actually want to work but the process of getting your resume viewed and an interview set up takes a while.

Do you really have to answer that question? Just watch the news every day and there’s your answer.

I went in for a job interview about 3 years ago, and the lady who conducted the interview told me right off the bat that I had a leg up on the other candidates. I was the 6th person she interviewed for the role and the 1st one to show up on time. I was floored. I'll always show up for a job interview 15 minutes early.

I actually had a guy call up to say he had a flat tire and ask to reschedule to the next day, then ghosted.
