This isn't a European foreign exchange program. It's Tuscaloosa ALABAMA and Oxford MISSISSIPPI, and while the name Oxford might give you pause for a second, it's nothing resembling an experience one might find in Oxford England. It's still Mississippi and Alabama.

Are you referring to uneducated rednecks? Trashy people? Louisiana is no better than Alabama or Mississippi in this regard. You need to realize that.

I think that's sort of his point about people thinking they are doing something so decidedly "different" and enlightening than their peers.

And all of that can be said about Ole Miss, Auburn, Florida, Georgia and Texas. And most of those are located in a nicer city that Tuscaloosa.

Oxford, Baton Rouge and Tuscaloosa are all truck stops people say "Filler Up" when passing through to another destination that will give them new experiences. Nobody goes to any of these places as a point of destination for cultural enlightenment unless it's football related. That's just a fact, so what's the difference in the three? Better chain restaurants? Hey, at least with LSU you're closer to great food and fun within a quick driving distance.

I grew up in south Mississippi. Most of my school went to the Big 3 state schools or South Alabama. I had no real allegiances to anything. Checked out LSU for spring testing and that was that. Had two friends from my high school who went to LSU as well which I thought was perfect. Glad I didn't go to 13th grade as well. Those people seem to be still hanging out with each other so I wonder if they made many new friends in college at all.

Called earlier in the week to make a reservation for 4 the Friday of the LSU game. Said they only do walk ups for game weekends.

We walked up, they said they weren't taking anymore names at 7:45p. 3 tables were empty. Guy behind me in line asks "how long is the wait" and she said "about an hour".

yep

Very comparable in fact.

Oxford is more like a smaller Austin or something like that with less crime. The demographics alone separate it from the rest of the state. Over half the students are from out of state as well.

When I read this thread title, I knew you'd be all over it...

To the OP: I went to Uhigh and then went to LSU, but i completely agree with what The Caterpillar is saying. Some people need to get away from the overbearing "bocage/BRCC/CCL" parents and get out of town. Small college towns suck for everyone but the students. T-town sucks, but its a cool place to goto school (so i hear).

LSU for this year was a 23 and a 3.0, but if you have over a 25 on ACT then they will be more lenient on the GPA.

Maybe they just wanna get away. I live in Tuscaloosa now. I did not grow up here. If I had, I probably wouldn't live here.

Some people wanna get away from their parents, their high school bullshite, etc.

That was the point. It's not like when you cross over state lines things change very dramatically. It's the exact same culture for the most part, but at least with LSU you have New Orleans. Memphis blows, and you can fall flat asleep in Birmingham in nothing flat.

UF, UGA, and UT are significantly harder to get into.

If I had to choose between OM, AU, or UA out of state I think I'd go to Bama.

Which major highway goes through Oxford?

Oxford is a town built on culture and heritage. It has some of the best food in the South. Look up John Currence. There are more bars and good restaurants on the square than Baton Rouge as a whole. Baton Rouge is not New Orleans. Its strip malls, chains, murders, and traffic. If it weren't for LSU, Baton Rouge would be Jackson, MS.

You sound like a moron.
