You weren't smart enough to get it waived?
Had a high enough ACT but had a 3.2 and needed a 3.5. Wish I would have known GPA actually meant something when I was a freshman and made a 2.5

I kid, i kid
I made a 26, class president, 3.7ish gpa and LSU still wouldn't waive my arse

I could have gone most anywhere I wanted but I only applied to LSU
I have buddies that went to OM and Bama but I never had any interest in doing all that
Granted how my first year at LSU went maybe I should have left BR, but thats another story...
Also the rich kids going to OM/Bama thing in my experience is pretty much dead on. Let's just say I don't know any poor people that did that.

This is cute. Actually I strongly considered LSU at one point and my parents encouraged me to go else where for new experiences. So there goes that theory
I didn't say anything about you personally, but if people are noticing that it's mostly wealthier kids going to Bama and Ole Miss, it's definitely because they're the ones who have the means to pay more to make lateral move in terms of universities. And no offense, but T-town isn't exactly Paris, so anyone going to Alabama for "new experiences" is like going to Chili's instead of Applebee's to expand their palate.

LSU waives at a 27 too. I switched to LSU last minute & didn't have time to take the ACT again.
Let's just say my parents hate me

my daughter got a 33 ACT and has a 4.0 GPA
alabama offered a 4-year full out of state tuition scholarship less than 2 weeks after she sent in her app
if she doesnt get a similar offer from her first choice, she will gladly accept. its a great school and a beautiful campus, just like LSU

I had about the same coming out of HS. Got similar offers from a handful of other schools, and out-of-state waived at a good bit more. Bama was the best choice for me, but look around. Lot of state school will give great scholarships with those scores

About to send my oldest and heard this but didn't know if true. The guidance counselor mentioned something along these lines since about 10 from my kids HS went to Bama last year. 20 or so from the other high school in town went. Bama is the cool school to go too right now for out of state.

If I had college age kids I wouldn't let them go there for anything. The drugs are unbelievable, it's a bad combo, kids with money to blow and good supply of drugs? I have never seen a school have such a drug problem among their Greeks. Trips to rehab and over doses are not the exception up there.
Posted on 2/24/14 at 2:32 pm to Triggerr
Well that's a very general statement. There are drugs at every college and some people do a lot, some people do a little, and some do none. I would agree there is more coke at Alabama than LSU, but I think there is a lot more coke in Athens and about the same in Oxford compared to Tuscaloosa.
Posted on 2/24/14 at 2:52 pm to Big Wooly Mammoth
of course there are drugs at UA but the whole "Tuscaloosa is full of coke" idea has been spewed for so long and so many times that it's basically urban legend now. Of course it's there, but it's really not any different from most SEC schools.

Coke isnt what I'm referring to, actually it would be the least of my worries up there although there is a ton of it around. I'm referring to the pills and the drugs down that line. Plenty of good kids from good families getting in way over their head up there, more than LSU. Can't speak for other SEC schools, just what I have seen and experienced at these 2.

THIS X 1,000. The legend was so ridiculous in my home town that it was almost assumed that if you went Greek and went to Alabama that you had to prove that you WEREN'T involved with drugs. Maybe I was naive and not looking in the right places but I was a member of an Old Row fraternity and literally never saw cocaine in my entire time at Alabama. Saw a lot of marijuana and some pills here and there but no coke. Obviously it was there but if it was as bad as many suggest surely I would have seen it at least once in 4 years.

It must be weird for U-high kids going to LSU. They have been going to the same campus for years! And I was such a loser, I didn't know what tigerland was , tailgating, or anything till freshman year of college.

Bama also has a very good medical school and an elite law school
Good law school, better than UGA I think ranking wise, but it is not in the elite tier.

Fact 1: Alabama is a somewhat better school than LSU academically
I've worked at both institutions, and the difference here is negligible. Like in terms of teachers, students, curriculum. Some incredibly smart kids at both schools. Absolutely horrible administrations at both schools. At Bama the last year I was there the keyword was "consumer-oriented" institution, which was a ridiculous frame for student-teacher interactions.
Bama is the richer school though.
I absolutely wouldn't send my child to LSU or Bama without a full ride, and even then, I would seriously consider sending them elsewhere.

same scores as a 33 and a 4.0 and bama was the best choice? jeez

her first choice is trinity in SA
where'd you go to school, just out of curiosity?
you sure seem to be bothered by something that doesn't affect you in the least...
