What is this car part called? car or truck

I need to know the name of this part. The part is the metal post thing that the door latches around when the door closes.
More detailed clarification. I am not talking about any part on the door itself. This part is only visible when the door is open and it is about waist high on the cab of the truck. It sticks out about an inch and a half from the cab body and the door latches around it.
Anyone know the name of this part?

Your picture is of the correct part. But on my truck it is a single post sticking out and not the U shaped part you posted. But serves the same purpose.
