After a merger/acquisition, offering a lower management gig with 1/3rd of the pay. By me turning it down, it was on me so basically quit, layed off with no severance or any sort of package.
They did this with several upper management employees.

Myself and a group of great people worked for a local consultant firm in BR. This place at one point in time was set to be one of the top consultant firms in the southeast. Only problem was we had a moron for an owner that would literally bow down to whatever the sales team wanted to do. They also set up our bonus structures to where sales would get everything and operations got nothing.
Long story short, after several years of fricking the ops teams out of their bonuses, and giving sales more, they owner then decides to hire a new CEO that was a known "axe man" as well as a guy that once worked AGAINST our company.
Within two months the company went from nearly 300 employees to half that. Mass exodus. Between fricking people over and hiring a guy that everyone knew was a dick, the owner finally put the nail in the coffin of a great company he built.
Fast forward 10 years later, every single person that left that company went on to do bigger and better things.

Worked for a company as a senior level manager and they created 'shares' and gave them out to employees. Not all got the same amount. Senior level got more and shop guys got less. These 'shares' had a value of like $5/each 'so say', and that one day when they sold the company, you would be able to cash out the 'shares' for that value or more if they were valued more. This went on for like 5-6 years, no sale of company, and no mention of how much the 'shares' were worth. Eventually, the company was going through ups/downs and they were making sweeping changes across the board. I resigned. These 'shares' were still mine and I was told I could keep them and still be a shareholder of the company for when it sells, that I could cash them in. This was in October. Come December 20th, I get a call/email from the company attorney with a letter saying that I will not be allowed to keep my shares that I have to cash them in at the current value of like $0.47 cents/share and I had to sign the papers before the end of the year, and if I didn't sign before the end of the year, I would be paid in installments over 36 months for that amount. I did end up signing because 1-I didn't have enough time to fight it, and 2-I figured it was good to just get out of that situation completely. The company sold that next year and the 'shares' were worth ~$7-8/share. It would have been a nice payday had I stayed, but I'm better off where I'm at now.

Nothing too awful. Early in my career I had an executive over our division that would try to play God with people's careers. Basically blocking promotion opportunities in other departments if he didn't want to lose people. So naturally high performers (including myself) eventually just left the company

Just someone that was fed up at that moment. No one liked that guy. It would’ve been applauded by the people they kept on.

Gas station job when I was younger. I complained to HR about an intoxicated manager.
Had my keys taken from me within a week. Job duties and hours working were reduced. Fired a few days later.

Heckuva first post, but here goes.
I had applied for a fairly high paid position at a company. No interest. Got the standard no soap letter with the usual "wish you the best in finding a place for your special skills and unique talents."
Fast forward three months. I get a call fawning over my resume and they can't wait to, and I quote, "welcome me to the team".
First day they put me with another guy simply to learn their company's software and procedures. This guy is a flunky, but has 20 years there and knows the systems and procedures. His first words to me, "I don't know why they put you with me. I'm not a trainer." I'm thinking, "I know about this than you ever will." I simply say, I just need to see the procedural steps used here.
Now, my job requires certain certifications and licences. They never asked for them. On day two I volunteer them. I am told "we'll get to it soon." Now I am suspicious. Never went anywhere that wasn't priority one before you even walk through the door.
Fast forward two weeks of doing menial crap not related to my job, and basically wasting time. Offered my credentials on an almost daily basis. Same response, "we'll get to that. I tell the wife, "something isn't right here."
Friday of my second week the man I report to directly comes and says, we need to go into HR. He is an older black guy been with the company 30 years and is just trying to hang on another year to retirement age, I've been around a minute. I know what "we need to go to HR" means. "I asked, so why am I getting fired?" He said, "I don't know."
I am told by the #2 man in the company, (a fat liberal SOB married to an equally fat liberal Karen), "It is time to part ways."
I asked why, and I am told, "I'm not at liberty to discuss that." I get smart and tell him, "you have my permission to tell me." He refuses. Termination notice says "job performance". Wait? I haven't even been allowed to do my job.
My direct boss is given the task of escorting me out. He is genuinely embarressed, He apologizes several times. I realize they have blindsided him too. He really was kept in the dark. Neither of us know what is going on. He tells me, and I believe him to this day. "Something has not been right about this whole scenario. I don't know what Bryan (#2 guy) and Jeff (#1 guy) are doing."
Fast forward almost a year. I am at an industry related seminar working for another company. The type we have all been to. Waste of time and money, but the CEO's buddy is somehow involved.
We are in a large conference room, maybe 35-40 people.. The subject of shady and unethical practices you might run into comes up.
I relate the story above. A young guy who I thought looked familiar suddenly says in a very loud voice, "SO, YOU'RE THE ONE! I KNEW I RECOGNIZED YOU FROM SOMEWHERE!"
WTF? I am the one?
Turns out he was at the previous company when I was there. He was a young up and coming guy stuck in a cubicle at the time, and we didn't have any real interaction. I remembered him after my memory was jogged. He is now at a better position with another company.
He lays out the whole story. It all came out about a month after I was fired. The previous guy who had my job was very good, but also a major arse kisser to # 1 and #2 guys. He quits claiming burnout.
Apparently #2 guy had actively been begging this guy to return. When it looked like he wouldn't, they hired me as an insurance policy. They hired me as a place holder, just in case. About a week after I was hired, he agrees to return. I am fired on Friday before he is to return the following Monday.
The story came out because the guy they rehired was bragging about how they begged him to return, and fired the new guy as soon as he said yes.
Good part is, #2 guy got fired not long after me. Trying to pull some shady crap to get #1's job. He was found out and #1 canned him.

didn’t happen to me, but to my wife
she was working part-time as a med tech in a hospital lab, looking for something fulltime
interviewed for a job with a private lab on a Thursday, was offered, accepted, and was told to report to their main office a an hour away on Monday for onboarding
told one of her coworkers that night about the new gig
Monday she rented a car since i needed ours for work, drove by the local office to pick up her paperwork, the guy who “hired” her said, “sorry, nevermind, we hired someone else who was more qualified, better luck next time”
turns out he got a call from her coworker who wanted off the night shift and she convinced him to hire her instead
ended up working out for the best, as she got the fulltime night shift gig from her departing coworker, got moved to evening shift just 3 weeks later

I work offshore, industrial automation. So make sure the operators don't kill us. They got rid of IT support and told everyone to "go see the automation guy, they are good with computers". It was then that I learned that my boss had no idea what I did here. Imagine going from saving the plant from a massive safety system problem, and turning around to see a painter wanting help getting his tablet on the WiFi.
All day, every day, being in the most critical and complicated role here, and everyone thinking you're supposed to fix the direct tv in their bunk.

Got laid off by a company after I was told to my face the day before that I have nothing to worry about and I was safe.
The day of, they started calling people in one at a time and letting them go. I was the last person they called in. I was on my way to my car for my lunch break, and they caught me in the parking lot and told me to come to the office. I thought it was a joke up until the time he told me how hard the decision was.
He called me back two weeks later in the middle of the LSU/OSU National Championship game wanting to rehire me but I declined.

About 30 years ago, was hired as Controller for a small local manufacturer, which is now quite large. My first assigned task was to fix the inventory issue.
Sat in the warehouse for a day, observing. Stevie Wonder could have seen the issue. Reported back to the owner. Was told that system could not be changed, because his brother in law had designed it.
2 years later, and after $500,000 in write downs, I was relieved for failure to fix the inventory issue.

I had taken over a private business as manager. It was oilfield related and the oilfield was on the way into a crash. So I put some stuff that we sold on the internet, long story short, I ended up scraping a wholesaler's website around 2001and adapted it to my shopping cart template and started drop shipping almost against their will and started figuring out PPC advertising and next thing you know, I'm selling millions of dollars worth of shite after I beat up Amazon for margin that got me to the top of them in my market. This was when they were starting to sell more than just books.
When it became apparent this was going to be a thing, the owner and his son who had just graduated with his MBA and was acting as my web developer took me to lunch and we all shook hands, named the new group we were going to work under and be partners in. I was named managing partner. I came up with another website that blew up so huge we took it down because demand couldn't be met. But that first one was steadily growing. I added a catalog for a few years. Anyway, I walked in one day and was told I was being let go. I knew what was happening. Walked out without a word.
The next week the wholesaler called me and asked if would do it for them. I did it with 64 more websites in nine years.
Do you still do stuff like this online? Drop shipping?
What's your view on Affiliate Marketing? Ever done any of that?
