re: Confirmation in the Catholic Church lowered from 11th grade to 7th grade

I can only give you my experience, which was more than miserable.
Both of my kids confirmed in the 11 grade. The preparation was run by a group of “Karen’s”. Didn’t check school schedules before scheduling any of the 28 meetings. Conflicts with baseball/volleyball, etc. When pointed out to them, their response was “well, I guess we will see what is important to them”.
The day long Sunday retreat was in February. About 40 degrees and misting rain. The enthusiastic group leader decided it was time to go outside and have a session around the Mary statue. I was looking at 70-80 year old grandparents, shivering and shaking. I asked if this was really necessary. The response? “Christians need to learn to suffer”.
This, more than anything, soured my kids on the Church.

Have been crossing it pretty much everyday for 45 years. In 1980, I could leave Brusly at 7:10 for a 7:30 class in the Quad. Now, I leave home at 6:00 AM for a 15 minute trip to downtown. If I left at 7:00, that could easily by 30-45 minutes.

Yes, Saturday afternoon on I-10. A 2000 Ford Excursion, pulling a trailer, rearranged the back end of my F150. Of the 5 occupants, 4.5 didn’t speak a word of English. Proof of insurance pending……..
I will echo these thoughts. I’ve known Will his entire life. Used to pitch to him when he was 3 years old.
Great kid, didn’t work out for him. Wish him the best.
And before the obligatory replies of “Dad” or “Uncle”, I am neither. Family friend who has known the Safford’s and Landry’s for longer than I care to remember.

Agreed. My freshman year at LSU. Still the best game I have ever attended at Tiger Stadium.
Tuscaloosa Visit
Posted by Tiger2274 on 11/12/19 at 8:18 am
I would like to extend a sincere thank you to all of the Bama fans that I met this past Saturday.
I, along with several friends, made my first trip to Tuscaloosa. Spent alot of time on campus. The Bama folks could not have been nicer. Very welcoming and friendly. A class act, through and through.

Art Cantrelle or Bill Elko.
Broussard Hall, circa 1980....
Bill Elko is in his room studying, and some of the track athletes, down the hall, had the stereo turned up. He walked down and asked them to turn it down. A few minutes later, it was cranked up again. He went down the hall and turned it down himself. A few minutes go by, and it's loud again. He goes down the hall, rips all the wires out the back of the stereo, and says "ya'll can come one at a time, or all at once. Doesn't matter to me."
The next morning at breakfast, the track athletes recruit Greg Cook to take care of this. He walks by where Elko is eating and knocks his milk on the floor. Elko looks up at Cook and says "pick it up..........or I'll kill you."
No more loud music.

I've known Richard Lipsey for 40 years. I worked for him at Steinberg's as a stupid 19 year old LSU student. Still calls me by name today. He is "good people". Kindness and intelligence, in spades.

Have been a member there for 5 years.
Generally, a really good course. Traps have always been substandard. Several fairway traps need to be filled in (#6 on the right, and #17 on the left). Shouldn't be in a trap AND be blocked by trees. Some of the pampas bushes have been taken out. There are a few more that could go.
Greens are usually OK, waiting for the grass to come in this year.
Best draining course in the BR area. There has to be lots of rain for carts to be on path.
Layout is great. It is a driving course. Keep it in the fairway, and you usually score well.

I gave them 4 years of tuition. They gave me a degree. We are square.

Bill Elko (Frank Kush's nephew). Legendary story of him and Greg Cook in Broussard dining room.
